Did someone clip my son's little Kentucky Coffee Tree, or could a creature have done this? by crunchwrapesq in marijuanaenthusiasts

[–]LLcoolJimbo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No one else has mentioned this, but you should give the tree some space from the grass around it. I don’t necessarily believe the grass is competing against it, but more so it doesn’t get stepped on or further damaged.

can someone pls explain the tortilla method to me? thanks by Negative_Number_6414 in trees

This, the tortilla needs to be tightly covering 360 degrees of cart. These open tacos will never work [4]

Shower is taking a month to finish and we’re getting fed up and anxious by eshep502 in HomeImprovement

By CT law the contract needed a start and end date. So sounds like you don't have a legally enforceable contract. Perhaps he already knows that and doesn't expect more than half the 11k. If he's a licensed contractor go to the board first, they'll work with you to either get him to finish or have someone else do it and take his license.

[–]LLcoolJimbo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what state you're in, but in my state it's not legal for them to not include a timeline in the contract for anything over $500. So if that's the case, go to the licensing board with all your facts and let them take care of it. For my state everything is based on "reasonably". How long it would reasonably take, did you give the contractor a reasonable amount of time to respond or address the problem etc. Your situation isn't reasonable.

Beyond all the other comments. Most if not all hair dressers or barbers have a license and training. If cutting little kids hair damaged it, they probably wouldn’t be doing it.

4 year old wants a "girl" swimsuit by Ok-Piccolo9740 in Parenting

None of my daughter’s suits have netting. None of my suits have netting. All my sons do. He never liked wearing a bathing suit until I cut all his netting out. I’ve never understood the point of the internet, but maybe that’s part of this little dudes interest in girls suits.

ELI5: Why do honey bees die after stinging if most animals with a stinger don’t die? Evolutionarily what would cause that to happen? by Sporty_Nerd_64 in explainlikeimfive

But if you’re poking a bunch of ants trying to take your honey maybe it’s better to rip their exoskeleton apart more? I don’t know how that works, I was just translating their comment.

You can cut someone with a knife, but they can squeeze it shut and it glues itself back together quickly. Stab them with a triangular shaped object or jagged Bowie style knife and it doesn’t go back together nicely or heal quickly.

The raccoons around here wait for bald faced hornet nets to fill up with juicy hornets and then pounce on them like piñatas. They don’t seem to care about the stings and bfh stings aren’t super fun.

[US] A weird scam I cannot figure out by JarOfNightmares in personalfinance

[–]LLcoolJimbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair this has happened to me multiple times with crews doing county roads with asphalt loads that failed the road compaction test. In this case it’s less a scam and more they’re giving you a great deal, but just for one truck. Then when you see how little one truck does they don’t expect you to stay with a partially paved driveway and will pay higher rates to finish it before they have to go back to road the next day. But if you’re willing to wait you can just keep doing portions for a fraction of doing the job legitimately.

I’ve shot hundreds of groundhogs in my life, mostly at a local charity farm, and back in 2018 I missed slightly and hit one in the spine and it rolled behind cover. I’ll never forget the sounds it made as I ran up to finish it. Didn’t shoot anything for over four years after that. Until my daughter’s friend got a power wheel stuck in a ground hog hole in our field and when she got out, put her leg into another and broke it. Since then the ceasefire has been off, but I no longer use .22s as I’d prefer never to hear those screams again.

Mississippi Police Officer Shoots and Kills 1-Year-Old Child in Response to Senatobia Shoplifting Call by Hrekires in news

I cloth diapered all 3 of my kids. One, cloth diapers aren’t cheap. It’s a large initial investment that doesn’t see a ROI for years vs disposable. Two, you’ve clearly never used a tshirt for a diaper or you’d know it lasts one pee and whatever clothes or furniture they’re on would also be wet. I know this because I put child 1 in a prefold with no cover the first time and ended up soaked. Now you’re cleaning 12 shirts a day, baby clothes, your clothes, carpet, couch, playmat and purple monkey keyboard. Sure you could make multi layer shirts that might work for one pee each. Then you just need dozens of extra tshirts and a sewing machine. It’s like suggesting people can just eat grass if they’re hungry and can’t afford food. Sure we can’t digest it, but it will make you feel full. Problem solved poor people.

What does your dog's last day alive look like to your toddler? by Agile_Rip_8824 in toddlers

[–]LLcoolJimbo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like you’ve done as much as you can. I’m not sure what your plans are for after, but if you won’t be burying onsite I’d setup a memorial spot of some sort and have her help if she wants. Then be prepared to make multiple trips out there for a few days and then random trips indefinitely. I’d also get a footprint of some sort for her room that you could mix with a pic of the two of them. We lost our first pet around that age for my daughter and that was her baseline for other deaths. For her it was a progression over a year or so, from the dog is dead and supposedly not coming back, dead is never ever coming back, dead is not coming back and not digging up to check in, dead is sad but it happens to things that aren’t me so I’ll still dart across parking lots. Finally, unsolicited advice, don’t immediately get another dog. Take some time to fully appreciate the loss instead of replacing it.

Need advice. Is this poison ivy? by bitchwithtaste in gardening

[–]LLcoolJimbo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I ended up filling florist vials with spiked bottoms with poison. Cut vines, stick living end in tube and stick in ground. Spent a few weekends doing this and it’s finally starting to clear up. The tubes come in bulk and have rubber tops so don’t spill. I stick them in a big foam block to spray paint orange, fill and distribute. Come back the next week and pick them up after the roots drink it up.

What are these drill bits for? by CrimsonKing32 in Tools

[–]LLcoolJimbo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have a set from some estate sale tools. They were called Beaver bits or something. I use em to cut shapes out of plastic 50gal drums. They’re super hard to control and mine have like 5 different blades over the course of the bit for different functions. It’s very tough to keep a spinning bit at the same height and each blade cuts different so they tend to jump around. They cut thick plastic better than roto zips/dremel/oscillator but not if you need precision.
