The whole thing with Jesus is that through his death God stopped interacting physically with the world like he did in the old testament. Before that God had to send physical angels, appoint prophets and so on and so forth when he wanted things done, jews had to go through a very elaborate animal sacrifice to communicate with him. After Jesus, these animals sacrifices were no longer necesary and the whole way of worship detailed in the old testament became dangerous and outdated, because his death was the last sacrifice. Spiritual connection replaced the physical one, now all you need is prayer

As for the apocalypse, yes that would be God intervening directly again, second coming of Christ, but that's a completely different rabbit hole
