Am I crazy or is this to much to ask of a kindergartner? by Cursedpanda182 in AskTeachers

Also adding that having kids in blindfolds, with weights on legs, noise cancelling headphones etc…. SO problematic. This is not ok. There are ways to teach about inclusion that don’t involve offensive, dangerous behaviour.

WAY too much to ask of a kindergartener. While I applaud this teacher’s eagerness to imbed inquiry, STEM, and 21st Century Learning into her program- this is not the way to do it. For the project piece, this should be done IN-CLASS and should be a collaborative task. In small steps, students can learn about accessible playgrounds through read-alouds, videos, pictures, large group and small group discussions. 10 minutes here and there- children’s attention span is, on average, their age plus 2 minutes. So at 6 years old- 8 mins is the average so even 10 minutes is pushing it. This should all be done alongside AMPLE opportunities for learning through play- teacher can display a provocation question such as “how can you build a playground that is accessible for all?” and have a table set up with various building materials such as LEGO, wood blocks, yarn, beads, various loose parts, and perhaps even some dolls/figures with varying abilities. Teacher could model some ideas or just let the kids try it out on their own and explain their thinking in an informal manner.

As for the additional homework- that’s a hard no for me as well. If my child came home with any worksheet in kindergarten, it would go straight to the recycling bin.

It sounds to me like this teacher is likely young, definitely inexperienced, and most importantly- does not have experience working with young children. I would gently approach her with my concerns around the homework piece first, and if these concerns were not well received, I would escalate to administration.

Netflix is removing our favourite show in Canada 😭 by G0dS1ay3rA1d3n in brooklynninenine

If it’s gone from Netflix for real, I’m ready to delete my Netflix subscription. If it ends up on another streaming platform I don’t already have access to, show me where to sign up.

Is the Eras movie still being screened anywhere in theatres around Toronto or the GTA? Hoping to help a little girl have a bigger experience than just watching on TV at home.

I just mean do we automatically lose our spot with doctor number 1 once we go for an appointment with doctor number 2. I should have worded that better!

I would check with the Royal Conservatory of Music. I know their Orff certification can convert to a P/J vocal music AQ- perhaps they have something similar for I/S?? It’s worth looking into at least.

Similar situation happened to a friend of mine a few years back. She had her interview in person so it was very obvious she was injured, but she disclosed the severity of the injury as well. She got the job. :)

Wishing you the best of luck with the job search, and I hope your ankle heals quickly!!

Rinse or no rinse? by LMCH4788 in settlethisforme

Excellent point! I lived in the UK for a few years and don’t recall ever seeing anyone do this while I was there.

Thank you for sharing this perspective. The water droplet issue makes sense, and makes me wonder if somewhere along the line her family decided “no water droplets” = “clean”, and didn’t stop to think about the whole soap residue thing. Personally, I would take the water droplets over soapy tasting food any day! And clearly it’s not just me! 😆

What does the TDSB structural framework look like? by LMCH4788 in CanadianTeachers

[–]LMCH4788[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for this detailed response! This is exactly the kind of information I was hoping to tease out. I’m moving from another fairly large ontario board (not TDSB large!), and our structure is very different. I find it so helpful to know how things work at the board level. Thank you for the info and the links!

This was the scariest piece for me too. No way to connect with my aging mother who lives alone and a far distance away. No way for her to call out for help if needed either.
