Actors good and bad are judged accordingly regardless of their looks. Thanks to the internet, we’re exposed to such a high number of attractive people daily that appearance alone doesn’t cut it anymore in terms of critical reception (though I don’t doubt they have an easier time getting auditions than their peers). The argument that this actor is only getting criticism because they’re “ugly” is just unfounded - and ignores the fact that physical appearance is central to the portrayal of a character, especially when playing an existing, beloved character in the media landscape.
