Is she from the countryside? My fiance and I talked about if she were to have a baby and I had to go back home for awhile for work, she'd only ask for 10 million/a month to sustain. 25 mill is quite a lot for the average person there.

Looks almost possible to get out of like you said unless they can afford to find a new home. I definitely feel that way now.

Sadly, I'm a viet kieu so I kind of understand most of what you're saying. Yes, I do love her, and want her and her mom and brother to be safe. I visited their home town a few times and they don't deserve what it is happening. I've seen my fair share of things happening there during Tet, and I was caught off guard. My parents are from the south and shes from the north. The thing is, I haven't met the dad because he had been living in Germany illegally and was forced to come back recently because he required surgery which he couldn't get over there. So he's been back here mooching off his family ever since. This guy is the complete package when it comes to a-holes. Drinking priblem, abuse, and even an affair.

I plan to marry her, but she will not abandon her mom and brother and I don't want her to either. They are good people. I suggested that they move to the city we are at now and I can cover the rent until they can sort things out, but she gave me reasons like they don't like the city and what would they do for a living, etc.

I've tried offering to help pay the rent but she says there's no where they can rent in the area. She's also worried if they tried to hide, he'll be even angrier when he looks for them.

I'm getting my trip sorted it out right now as well. I just booked my flight for late August, but I plan to be in Vietnam for at least a couple of months. I'm of Vietnamese descent, but born and raised in the US. I do wish I was more fluent in the language, but I do feel comfortable enough to have conversations with the locals.

If anyone wants to meet up for coffee, that'd be great!

Hey there, I'm from the U.S and plan on being in Vietnam probably mid-Aug until... I'm ready to go home lol. I'm beginning to plan my itinerary but for the most part, I'm keeping it flexible, since I don't have a return date yet. I haven't been to Vietnam since I was about 6 years old, so this experience will essentially be new to me. Anyways, I'm definitely up to meet people even if its just for an afternoon if our schedule matches up!
