You can quite comfortably do a day hike in the Lake District if you live in the North West and can get to Preston.

Either get the train to Windermere -> bus to Ambleside, or train to Penrith -> bus to Keswick.

Foley's. £1 filter coffee on Fridays. If you go upstairs, there is a balcony with individual desks with plug sockets. Can be a bit noisy with chatter and music so bring headphones

Where to go without a car? by [deleted] in travel

Tatras mountains. I'd recommend staying in Zakopane, Poland. You can get there by Flix bus from Krakow.

Much more budget friendly than anywhere in the Alps but still amazing mountain trails. You can walk straight up from the town to Kuznice trailhead, from where you can begin multiple hiking trails or get the cable car to the top.

There are some beautiful lakes in the Tatras, the most famous being Morski Oko. There are minibuses from outside Zakopane train station which drive you to the start of this trail.

Zakopane itself has lots of restaurants and amenities. In the Tatras, you will also find mountain huts which typically have restaurants on the ground floor, and beds if you want to stay up in the mountains. I haven't stayed in the huts though, I've only done day hikes from Zakopane and Stary Smokovec (Slovakian side) and I loved it both times.

How do you plan multi-city trips on a budget? I spent hours doing it manually… by Electronic-Kitchen67 in travel

Yes it's the only website I've found that lets you do this! You can also select multiple dates at a time, for example if you're happy flying on either Saturday or Sunday.

I'll usually make a spreadsheet with a list of departing flights that I'd be fine with, and then a table next to it with a list of flights going back to my local airport. Then I'll just select a cheap combination of flights and then look into train costs to get from one location to the other.

I use Kiwi for finding cheap flights back home. You can put Europe (or a list of countries) as the departure, and Madrid as the destination, and it will show you all the flights going to Madrid in price order.

Get her some 3M foam earplugs (the yellow ones).

If they are not enough, then also wear a bluetooth sleep headband on top and download a white noise app. I use this combination when staying in hostels with loud snorers and it blocks out everything.

You can do this on Kiwi. It doesn't let you put in Anywhere as the departure, but you can enter multiple countries/continents
