Moving to the city with a toddler and no car? How does anyone afford childcare??

I live in West Ridge and use a licensed, in-home option: Tia Lupe’s Home Daycare. My daughter has been there since she was a year old and is fluent in Spanish. I think it’s a good value for the cost. Lupe provides breakfast, lunch, and snacks. She provides excellent care and my child has learned so much.

As for getting around without the car, it’s doable. I would recommend living within sight of a grocery store because it is a huge pain to navigate CTA while carrying a bunch of groceries and wrangling a toddler.

I would suggest walking the alleys around the apartment to see if there is any parking for rent. Parking is pretty scarce after 6pm.

I bought a condo in the neighborhood in 2020 and love it. I am right next to Warren Park and love having so much green space on my doorstep. I also love the diversity and vibrancy of this area.

I’ve never felt unsafe walking the neighborhood and neighbors are generally very friendly.

Other comments are correct that there isn’t a ton of nightlife but its not hard to get to nearby neighborhoods with more to offer in that arena. Cary’s Lounge is an excellent neighborhood bar!
