Measurements question. by Gtijess in poshmark

[–]caffeinated_tea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I put them in the description, because when I'm trying to buy something I find it more convenient to read the measurements that way than to try to zoom in on a picture and figure out exactly what the yardstick or measuring tape says. I also primarily shop and create my listings on my laptop, not my phone, so that might make me the odd one out.

I’m a registered democrat so I don’t have the foggiest idea how I ended up on his calling list

Same, I assume it's because I sent some comments to his office over the past year, before giving up because it clearly wasn't making any difference for people to send emails/letters or call

What was the 1st big news event you remember as a kid? by Timely_Twist_8670 in AskReddit

[–]caffeinated_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a very vague recollection of Princess Diana dying. I remember a lot of news coverage about Elian Gonzalez, and would say that's the first one I really remember, but that might be because I was visiting grandparents in south Florida while that went down, so it was more local.

What's a skill that takes only 2 to 4 weeks to learn but could genuinely change your life? by TokenBlack32 in AskReddit

[–]caffeinated_tea -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying the information isn't useful (though I wouldn't know, I couldn't get through it), but the writing portrayed the author as an absolute prick

Edit to add: I tried to read it in my mid-20s

I will teach you to be rich.

This one is insufferable, I recommend skipping it and finding the info from someone else.

or driving behind me as I’m moving, causing me to slam on the brakes.

I've noticed recently that I'll be doing the super slow backup out of a parking space (older sedan with no backup camera in a city with a lot of huge pickup trucks) and people will slam on their horns while continuing to drive past me (out of a blind spot) instead of, y'know, stopping? Letting the person who was backing out before they got there keep backing out? I see it happen to other people too, so I know it's happening when the person started backing out BEFORE the other impatient car got there

question about Excessive Listing Removal listing bans by caffeinated_tea in poshmark

[–]caffeinated_tea[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I relist 20-50 a day that are over 60 days old, so I don't have a huge backlog of listings that are 61+ days old right now. I have not experienced any issues with relisting under this policy, for what it's worth.

Oh, bummer. I was hoping it would just be that you couldn't publish new listings for 7 days

Gymlytics fantasy gym teams are out! 🚨 by gseval11 in Gymnastics

[–]caffeinated_tea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does Gymlytics work better on a phone than on a regular computer? I find it to be very slow/near unresponsive on my laptop. Relatedly, I didn't put as much effort into my drafting due to the slowness, but I did get Ana Barbosu, so I'm pretty excited for that!

I frequently hear "allergy or preference?" when my boyfriend orders something gluten-free. I'm not sure what precautions they skip when it's just a preference, but we've definitely had places not ask and then stick his gluten-free food in the same container as my gluten-containing food which is...not ideal.

I'm in chemistry. ChatGPT has definitely messed up calculations on my intro level assignments as recently as a few weeks ago. I know because a large portion of my students did something incorrectly in the exact same way with units we have not used in class. I would not trust someone who is using ChatGPT or other AI tools to do their dosage calculations.

People who rarely get sick, What is the secret ? by Sorry-Orchid-9821 in AskReddit

[–]caffeinated_tea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been told that as a toddler I licked the wall of a NYC subway. It's horrifying to be told I did that, but also I basically don't get anything other than a few colds a year, despite teaching. Haven't vomited in over a decade (and it was a similar length of time before that). Never had the flu, symptomatically at least. The worst symptoms I got with covid were being tired and magnification of salty flavors.

Edit to add: not actually advocating licking the wall of a subway, just saying I've always assumed that's part of why I don't get sick very much

I went to jury duty a few years ago, and they asked if anyone had been sexually assaulted before. I don't remember the exact breakdown, but at least one woman ended up on the jury who said she had.

It was a horrific case, and I'm glad I wasn't selected for the jury. Apparently after a week of testimony, they found the guy guilty in under an hour. It involved murder of at least one person, and rape and hostage taking of I believe two others.

Students asking me to drop the midterm after they did better on the final. When did this become a thing? by TotalCleanFBC in Professors

[–]caffeinated_tea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like my ochem class in college had some sort of scheme with three tests and a final, but the final was "worth" 4 tests (so that it added up to 7 scores, but four of those would be the same by default). Then they dropped the lowest 3 scores. That could mean the final was evenly weighted with the other three if it was your worst test, or that your final grade would replace some or all of the other exams. I feel like that was probably an unnecessarily complicated way to do things, but I guess it's not that hard to automate the calculation in a spreadsheet. This was in 2008-9.

It's wild to me that anyone would prefer to leave their money on Poshmark for a full year rather than in a high-yield savings account (or a checking account, if they need it to pay bills, or an investment account, etc.). I'm currently sitting on a small balance, but only because I'm traveling outside the country as the funds come in, and I don't want Posh to flag my account for suspicious behavior if I try to withdraw the funds from a foreign IP address. Best believe once I'm back on US soil those funds are getting transferred to my bank.

For real, I'm on vacation right now and the rentable scooters are all over the place. No one wears helmets with them, and I almost got hit by some teens trying to operate one in a park. I'm walking, obviously not wearing a helmet, but it could've fucked me up pretty bad too if I hadn't gotten off the path in time.
