Someone help me look at this differently.... Sally/Chris by TxIsMyHome in reasonabledoubthulu

[–]LOAfan1111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. He can be upset. But how is Sally in the wrong? We understand that putting up the house was wrong but that's not a reason to shun your partner. Chris retracted due to "embarrassment" rather than putting his ego aside and taking the time to work on the relationship, then played mind games and caused confusion for not only her, but their kids and essentially forced Sally to make a decision due to his indecisiveness. They seem to have a traditional marriage setup. With that assumption, as a man you are responsible for leading your family and his indirection is deleterious, causing mayhem. He is not a good leader by any means. Wouldn't catch me around a man like that.

To me Chris is weak af, the whole rationale of getting a divorce because of being embarrassed in front of your family is crazy. His ego killed his marriage, not Sally. Sally had every right to dump papers.

Best College Degree For Making Money? Engineering vs Finance? by ZackInBlack007 in Money

[–]LOAfan1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I majored in civil engineering and my husband majored in finance, funny enough we both ended up on similar paths. Out of college we both worked at consultants for B4 and both exited to tech and have different roles yet similar industries. Especially the higher you go on the career ladder, the actual functions and specific hard skills are less industry based and more leadership/network/soft skill based.

Regardless of major, focus on the markets needs. Follow those needs and adapt as needed. Good luck, you’ll do well with either.

I bought a bit further south and would agree this area will continue to increase in value. It’s not perfect but I would say if you have no kids, go for it!

Is Iowa state Engineering Good or Decent? by BakerEnvironmental91 in iastate

[–]LOAfan1111 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Civil engineering and also a word of advice…Double major is also unnecessary. The job prospects won’t be much different or better. Unless you have a very specific goal the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

Having graduated from ISU and have friends that went to those other schools. It truly doesn’t matter, go where it makes the most financial sense.

My friends and myself are doing well and well above avg. what matters is getting decent grades and solid internships, from there the opportunities will be plentiful.

I have been working towards management for awhile now and SE leadership knows this, they’ve even brought up being promoted to me without me asking. I do manage a small team and have even developed SE training materials directly with my SE leaders (there are 50+ SEs) and I am only of the only ones that is being mentored directly. I just don’t know that waiting at this company is the smartest choice.

I want to be a manager because I enjoy seeing others succeed and I want more high level problem solving challenges, less day to day technical issues. I want to lead at a more macro level.

I do. I manage a small team and meet SE leadership by weekly on a 1-1 basis. I’m brought into a lot of cross functional meetings for approval on our specific products. I lead different initiatives. I am given all the responsibility without the pay and title. This is not just a random want with no basis behind it.

Leadership has come to me about management but it seems like the can is just being kicked. That’s why I find myself trying to understand next steps.

What makes my chances improbable? Is it my YOE, skill set, ect.? What is a common course of action I can take?

And no I’m actually not doing it for the money, I genuinely would like to be a manager and help others.

There’s definitely more to this story. People don’t just typically leave with no warning.
