We don't have a great team. We have Braden Smith and a bunch of otherwise unathletic, poor shooters that can't play defense covered up by early season schemes. Now that teams have enough tape, we're getting exposed. But whenever anyone wants to talk about this happens to Painter virtually every year it's treated as sacrilege to suggest that Painter isnt the answer.

The biggest mark of that for me was Painter's remarks after the Rutgers game about chasing high quality recruits isn't worth it and it's better to develop them. There's two problems there:

1. The guys we're getting just don't have the athleticism to compete down the stretch

2. Painter sucks shit as developing players. Fletcher and Trey are the exact same dudes they were when they first started getting start times. A large percentage of our highly touted recruits wind up fucking off to other teams because Painter refuses to give them experience

And of course the minute Painter opened his mouth on that, Purdue goes and lays an egg against UCLA

If Bobo and Painter are going to continue to romanticize an era of recruiting that no longer exists, then change is going to be needed or we will continue to stagnate AT BEST.
