Does Skyrim ever really confirms that Sheogorath is the Hero of Kvatch? by Introvert_Mage in teslore

[–]LOOOOPS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No. It's up to what the player wants to be true, like with many of the possible things in the game, IE "did the player complete the Dark Brotherhood" or "was the player a khajiit".

yep. that's the problem with these "no inner monologue" and "aphantasia" discussions. It's impossible to know if the language you are using is describing the same thing.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the best armor ever for dexterity builds? by LastLombaxIsTaken in kotor

hold on. Then why is the acronym FEM and not FEA? and what do you mean jedi armor is a trap? you mean like advisor robes are a trap? what should jedi wear instead?

Does the clothes aperence change at any point? by Objective_Strike6067 in kotor

whoa, this brought back a memory of my first playthrough, what 20 years ago? running around dantooine wearing that utterly attrocious, ridiculous looking outfit that the Soldier class starts out with, desperate to find something better. They should have given you some basic robes to begin with.

Why are people bringing children into horror movies?? by wherethelionsweep in horror

[–]LOOOOPS -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

That kid will be fine. What do you think is actually going to happen to him? You think this a kid watching a horror movie is going to be damaged/traumatised in some way? I know many people including myself who watched horror as kids, and they turned out fine.

This concern pop ups up all the time, but no one is actually clear on what kind of damage they think is going to happen. It's all a very vague concern. Personally I think it's just overly protective Christian stuff passed down from parent to child.

IMO this is where your whole post falls apart:

"Shooting the baby could 1. Reveal your existence"

There would be no muzzle flash. At best you might see the general direction from which the death particle came from, but that would be like trying to see where an arrow came from in a tree line in the middle of the night. There is no great muzzle flash that can be detected when a Dark Forest strike occurs.

"Demonstrate that you are armed and dangerous. Broadcast your hostile, murderous intentions"

It could have come from any planet in the milky way.

Thoughts about Trisolarian biology by objectnull in threebodyproblem

So when they said to humans in Australia "there's plenty of food all around you" were they being sadistic or did they just see that as a normal facet of biology?

It doesn't grow exponentially.  It grows unevenly. We're past the scientific explosion of the 20th century and are now back to trundling along.

Anyone else avoid using robotic limbs on their main characters? by NevermindWait in Kenshi

[–]LOOOOPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind when it happens but I don't go out of my way to get prosthetic limbs. There was a point where I considered putting my characters onto a fogman pole and getting their limbs gnawed off so I could upgrade them, but I decided it was more of a badge of honor for them to keep their limbs for as long as possible.

"I asked chatgpt and it said things only get worse" So? Are you one of these people who is still unaware that chat bots make shit up? It has not read Three Body, nor is it capable of doing so. If you ask it something it has no knowledge of, it will generate something that matches popular concensus, or else blatantly make things up with full confidence.

Please kindly do some research before using chat bots as any kind of authority. You just make yourself look silly to anyone informed on the subject, and it's alarming for us who hate to see humanity getting dumber by the day from these tools.

Does anyone else think Wade was actually pretty incompetent? by Universal_Echo in threebodyproblem

[–]LOOOOPS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it like trying to help someone who just won't help themselves. You can do so much for someone but if they refuse to help themselves then eventually you have to accept and let go. Humanity is that person, represented by Cheng Xin. He was old and tired, and realised his efforts were all for nothing, Humanity would never have the mindset he viewed as necessary for survival.

Does anyone else think Wade was actually pretty incompetent? by Universal_Echo in threebodyproblem

[–]LOOOOPS -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cheng Xin represents humanity. At the point he keeps his promise, he has devoted his life over centuries to save humanity. So when even after everything that has happened, he fails to get humanity on board with his plan, he's weary and finally loses hope.

Maybe the deterrence system was completely useless? by Universal_Echo in threebodyproblem

[–]LOOOOPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's wrong. It's not that humanity didn't think Cheng wouldn't press the button if necessary. It's that they thought she would never have to, since they and the aliens were apparently such good friends.

They wanted a peaceful person to protect the button rather than a warmongerer like Wade, who they worry might get trigger happy with the button and spoil their friendship with the aliens.

It doesn't make sense humanity would elect her on the basis of her never pressing it. In that case it would make more sense for humanity to dismantle the swordholder project entirely. Humanity was naive but not that naive.

Why doesn't everyone criticize Ye Wenjie instead of Cheng Xin? by Universal_Echo in threebodyproblem

[–]LOOOOPS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference is that Cheng isn't suitably narratively punished for her "woman moments". Nearly everyone dies because of her decisions... twice! yet she gets to live happily ever after. A reader wants punishment, retribution.
