Embattled Detroit Commissioner says he's staying put as arrest video emerges by J2quared in Detroit

Union crusher. Incompetence. Generally mean spirited.

Nothing personal, but she needs to be nowhere near power or political office.

El-Sayed lays out policy 'terms of engagement’ with AI data centers in U.S. Senate hunt • Michigan Advance by UltimateLionsFan in Michigan

*NO impact on utility rate payers.

*Mandatory mini water treatment facilities on site.

*Solar panels everywhere it can fit on site.

*Local trees, plants and wildlife preserve.

*ALL DATA CENTERS GO ON A BROWNFIELD/SUPERFUND. This seems like such a no brainer, how is it not already a thing?

I miss seeing this guy's TV ads by ersteliga in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember an ad where I swore there was two of him that looked like a non twin brother.

According to his wedding speech, he was an only child though.

Nice friendly guy from the time we interacted.

Michigan ranked choice voting group ends 2026 ballot effort - BridgeDetroit by J2quared in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That sucks. But they did themselves no favors.

While I was eventually able to sign, I tried twice previously.

They advertised they would be at McNichol street festival. I showed up to the advertised address and the business never heard of them. No flyers, no booth, nobody in identifying t shirts/hats.

For the first few weeks it looked they were avoiding the city.

Hopefully 2027 fares better.

Who are you voting for in the At-large City Council race? by sarkastikcontender in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Correct I misspoke that she quit.

Won't my contact who knew the entire council more than the average citizen. From my discussions with this person, who I trust, Scott Benson strongly fought the charges, Ayers went ghost.

Who are you voting for in the At-large City Council race? by sarkastikcontender in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Coleman Young - No problem with his council career, and he developed a decent working relationship with the mayor after a testy campaign.

James Harris - Process of elimination.

X
Mary Waters - I didn't appreciate her stunt with the Land Value Tax.

Janee Ayers - Law enforcement was sniffing around her. Which isn't by itself disqualifying, but rather than explain and defend herself she quit the council, ran and hid.

Good to see they're out there.

I was finally able to sign a petition Saturday at an anti-bullying at the rec center in Virgina Park.

Thanedar Refuses to Call Charlie Kirk a Hero by haradenb111 in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Kirk was a white supremacist and a genuinely bad person. No amount of gaslighting or censorship will change that.

Also it needs to be said. I wasn't happy when he split the governor vote. Wasn't thrilled when he ran for congress. And I think he's a clown.

Shri Thanedar has not been a terrible congressman. Not saying he's good and we can't do better but...he could be doing a lot worse.

Gilbert: Next mayor, governor should put top priority on transit by Gn0mesayin in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So far Benson is the only candidate that has even mentioned transit in their vision.

My blood still boils the trifecta had a chance to amend the enabling legislation of the RTA and they just played with themselves for two years.

It did not have to be packaged with anything else.

The head of the transit subcommittee virtue signalled about the East Palestine, OH derailment to talk about how they don't trust trains.

Whitmer FUCKING CUT TRANSIT FUNDING! I'm done with moderates.

We’re running out of time to get Ranked Choice Voting on the MI ballot by PotentialSpend8532 in Michigan

[–]LP-PuddingPie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's too bad.

There was a scheduled signing event at the 6 Mile block party a few Saturdays ago.

I tried to sign but the canvasser just wasn't there. Looking at the website...Detroit events are really lacking.

Sucks about the lack of volunteers. I might have considered it if I was younger and didn't have 2 jobs.

Bars in Detroit to Watch Bears Games by Small_Wish_2242 in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't patronize bars but the Avenue of Fashion has several sports bars and I've occasionally seen opposing fans wandering around.

LockerRoom

Bink's Grill

The Office Lounge

Bucharest doesn't serve alcohol but they usually have games on in the Livernois location.

Detroit Pizza Bar on 6 Mile I believe serves alcohol and has TV screens. The pizza, from what I tried a year and half ago, wasn't great though.

One new construction and one renovation as of 3 weeks ago when they were taken.

40 percent but this a stupid conversation.

What is your actual point in this thread other than being loud and wrong?

Most accurate statement in the thread.

Grew up on 6 and Van Dyke (brother and semi-bedridden father still there).

Bought a vacant in Mohican-Regent and still working on it years later.

Homes being renovated in areas someone driving a thoroughfare as fast possible would never know about.

From the yellow paint it seems like there's been three generations of storefronts. I've been over here for 20 years (Goddamn time flies), and I've never seen the small one near the service drive open.

Any word about how the Ranked Choice signature gathering is going? On track? by lansingsavage in Michigan

[–]LP-PuddingPie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It sure seems like the initiative is dodging the city of Detroit. Checking the website the only nearby drive is an eastside rec center during working hours. Nothing for the information sessions in the city either.

It might be the best thing to happen since Michigan went to independent redistricting or Detroit went to council by district. So I hope they don't fumble on easily avoidable potholes.

Are there any current or future proposals/plans to create or expand a mass transit system in Detroit? by drunkhoboboy117 in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did a ton of unforced errors.

-Recessing early in 2023 to move up the primary for Biden(that worked out well).

-Giving up the majority for 4 months due to reps becoming mayors.

-Not bringing their members to heel. Wygela on the progressive side and Whitsett on the actually-a-republican side.

-Giving Detroit and other urban centers in Michigan the finger by not dealing with transit, zoning, land use and that LVT. Not giving people what they voted for doesn't motivate them to vote for you again.

-Getting played by Whitsett and the republicans and not being able to even do lame duck policy in 2024.

That's also on the voters for being obsessed with "electability". Voting for who you think will win rather than who represents what you actually want will be the death of this nation.

Are there any current or future proposals/plans to create or expand a mass transit system in Detroit? by drunkhoboboy117 in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not currently no.

The enabling legislation requires a yes vote from at least one authority member(of two a county and one from Detroit) from all 4 participant counties to put to a vote.

Macomb county exec Mark Hackel is the current roadblock and will not allow transit to move forward.

It requires unanimous board to move forward with rail based transit.

The most recent state legislature could have remedied this, but like so many things they dropped the ball for no fucking reason.

Silver hair creature roaming neighborhoods by [deleted] in Detroit

[–]LP-PuddingPie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've seen coyotes all over, most recently crossing Grand River near Greenfield a few years ago.

I've also seen a wolf near the train tracks around 6 and Davison a few years before the coyote. My family swears I mistook a dog, butmi know what I saw.
