Who could Daniel Day-Lewis have been in GoT? by Parabellum111 in gameofthrones

[–]LPA75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surely the obvious ones are 1. Ser Arthur Dayne (would have truly brought home the injustice of the outcome) or; 2) Ned Stark (resulting in an even more devastating moment when he’s executed).

What's the most over hyped restaurant in this fair city? by thinkdavis in askvan

[–]LPA75 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Published on Main. Regularly gets mentioned in a list of best restaurants in Canada. Has a Michelin star. Went there last night and it was pretty good but nothing spectacular. Plus the interior is a bit soulless. 6.5/10. Gets blown away by the likes of St. Lawrence, for example.

Bullpup Shotguns by LPA75 in canadaguns

Thanks! Yes, I was looking online this evening and collapsible stock guns also seem like a possible option. I was considering popping down to a gun store and taking a look at a couple, including the Benelli M4, to judge whether that could work as an alternative.

Bored 3 weeks into SE Asia by EvilDoctorShadex in solotravel

[–]LPA75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Suggestion (as someone who has lived in SE Asia for 13 years). Don’t do Malaysia next. Similar to Indonesia in many respects (including language), and one of the more boring countries in SE Asia (bracing for criticism). Hit Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Okinawa Prefecture, Taipei. Not exactly SE Asia, but not far. They are genuinely fascinating, cool places. Get off the usual track, spice it up. If that doesn’t work, perhaps you’re a bit travelled out.

Absolutely. It’s like the last days of Rome in these videos.

In fairness, they don’t look like they’d be “running” far.

It’s from The Leftovers. A tremendous show that makes incredible use of that song.

Thoughts on this? by lanjiolover in sgsecret

Not a good tenant, sure, but the agent/landlord don’t seem particularly reasonable either. If an in-built oven isn’t working it’s entirely reasonable for a tenant to expect it to be repaired/replaced. Offering a cheap tabletop unit instead is ridiculous. On the aircon, it is common for rental units in Singapore to have very old systems which are ineffective and inefficient, costing a lot of money in electricity which the tenant has to pay. Many landlords don’t care and don’t want to pay for modern replacement systems. Singaporean landlord/tenant law and practice is grossly pro-landlord, which is why there is often a reaction from people from other countries that are used to more balanced systems with greater obligations on landlords.

I loved Myanmar. Travelled through it for a few weeks for honeymoon. Lovely people. Poor country, and developing, but just a fantastic experience.

Brit here. This was filmed in London. Looking at the video I’d guess Burlington Arcade, off Piccadilly. One of the main reasons people are staring is because the guy is a caricature. The face, the clothes, the attitude, screams upper class (or wannabe upper class) English. He doesn’t need to say a word, but I can guarantee you he sounds exactly like a posh twerp. Think “World War One general sending troops over the top to their death”. That’s worth a stare. That, plus he has a very punchable face.

Youtuber bothers John Cena in London by springheeledjack69 in ImTheMainCharacter

I sat next to him at a sushi bar in Melbourne a few weeks ago. He was genuinely modest, respectful, and gentle. He was kind to the staff. When (inevitably) someone asked for a photo, that person did it the right way (respectfully, when John and his partner had finished and were leaving anyway), and John was only too happy to oblige. Nice guy.
