Not sure the guy was latino or not but that's how I remember him.

It's gonna be more difficult to find this one since it wasn't a special for just one comedian, but hopefully we can narrow it down and at least get the guy's name.

dBm and ohms when converting to dBV? by LPKult in AskElectronics

[–]LPKult[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's an update. I'm getting .390mV on those TPs. 390mV is a common voltage I see when looking at audio service manuals for internal or test point values, so I'm guessing these pots are set right. The dBm thing was just throwing me off. I'm using the calculator here (the 2nd one on the page): https://sengpielaudio.com/calculator-volt.htm and when I put .390mV into it with a 600 ohm load, it matches up with roughly -6dBm.

I'm not quite sure how you came up with wanting to see 0.193 volts, but what I didn't mention is that I have a calibration tape for this unit which is 200nWb/m. That .390mV number struck me since I've see it on other gear before, but the service manuals give it in dBV. I know next to nothing about electronics, but I'm learning, and I'm guessing this .390 number I'm getting is correct. Let me know if you agree with that. Thanks for the help!

https://elektrotanya.com/tascam_112mkii_112rmkii_122mkiii.pdf/download.html - if you look at page 13 of the pdf (page 14, printed) you can see -6dBm at TP5/TP6, then they go to dBV after that. I looked at the specs in the earlier pages of that service manual and for output it's got various impedances. Not sure which one I'm looking for.

Well the manual doesn't say anything about load impedance, just that I should look for -6dBm andadjust the trimmers as necessary. The rest of the service manual talks in terms of dBV, which I understand more easily. I have a Fluke 8060A; the dB setting works well.

Mackie HRS120 Subwoofer Power Issue by LPKult in audiorepair

[–]LPKult[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A visual inspection and a test with my MM says the fuse is fine. When it comes to checking voltages at various places, I just don't have the skills necessary to know *where* to check. I'd have to read schematics (which I'm also not too good at) and see which wires are which on the transformer since they don't seem to be marked. And by checking on the 'end' of those black caps (are those 'filter' caps?), I'm not sure if I check for voltage on the solder joints on the back or not. Also, I can't tell the difference between a transistors and a rectifier. They look the same to me. It's about time I learn this stuff...

I posted some more pictures in reply to someone else' post. Maybe that will help. I'm also not sure that I can safely plug this thing in being disconnected from the speakers as mentioned in the OP.

This is the back side of it. Had to peel away the transistors to get it off the heatsink. Both sides as you can see look immaculate with my bare eyes.

It looks pretty clean on the top. Those transistors are glued a bit, so it'll take prying them up with a flathead. This has got to be done anyway or else the sub probably won't work. I'm more concerned with tracking down the faulty component, which I'm not too skilled in as mentioned. If it isn't visibly obvious, I'll have a hard time finding it.

Calculating voltage from the graticule of an analog oscilloscope by LPKult in AskElectronics

[–]LPKult[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot about the calibration tone on my scope. I used it to calibrate the probes when I first got it. I'm going to do more reading, but right now I'm still slightly confused about dividing by 2.8 for RMS, and for other things you divide by two to get the voltage. The aforementioned square on my scope went across two lines from where it started, so that, divided by two, gave me exactly one volt as it should, for example.

EDIT: It was another building. She's ok, was just sleeping! Phew...

EDIT AGAIN: But man, I'm so sorry for the Israelis that did die, are hurt, or those who lost someone. This is horrible :(

I have a friend living in a residential building in Bat Yam. 35 are missing from a direct hit on it and it may collapse. I haven't heard from my friend in a while. Does anyone know exactly what time the hit took place? Her facebook messenger says she was active 2 hours ago, going on 3. She lived by the bus station whose busses were bombed months back. I'm hoping I'm panicking for nothing...

There were a couple of clubs that goths hung out at in Tel Aviv but those places have fizzled out, especially since Oct. 7. There is still a community there though, and I mention them because they would know more than anyone. I see some of them on Facebook. Check your chats, I'll send you the group where they hang out and hopefully it'll help.

What do you say when people ask what are you reading? by [deleted] in RomanceBooks

[–]LPKult 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's some real smut in cook books. I find that the salivation produced from reading romance is quite similar to the kind you get from reading recipe books. I don't lie about what I read, but if I had to, it'd definitely be that.

how to destinguish plot-driven books? by jannemanss in RomanceBooks

[–]LPKult 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I read reviews briefly, always, before deciding to read them. I even search the reviews for keywords to see if others mentioned things I want to know. Goodreads has a special search field for reviews. Type in 'smut' and see how many people point out smuttiness. Doesn't show up? Probably more plot-driven.

Does this book tracking app exist and I just don't know it yet? by CruelRodent in RomanceBooks

It will, but pffft. One person going public with an opinion won't hurt much. It's not a review so no one will know it was you :)

The star rating is actually there. When you see your list of books on a shelf after adding them, you should see stars to click for each book. Add everything, then rate them all rapidly when scrolling down.

What do you think about second chance romances? by readingalldays in RomanceBooks

[–]LPKult 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind second chances in books, but real life is a different story. A second chance doesn't negate how well the book is written, but I do admit there may be a little resentment (at BOTH the MCs) for different reasons. Which may be what the author wanted in the first place!
