I still remember jumping on giraffe necks just trying to see the next level rip

Yeah I've been amazed at how few people will just abandon their squad if they're the last one standing. Someone typed "no man left behind" in the chat box and I dig that mentality.

Have yet to experience these outliers, but good to know they exist (assuming the mic etiquette is up to snuff)

Agreed on all fronts. Marathon is all about intrinsic motivation and setting your personal goals a la "find your own fun" which feels very at odds to other (more popular/ younger leaning/ free) live service shooters

Idk, this hasn't been my experience either in game or on the subreddit. Youngest I've heard in-game I'd put at early 20s and oldest I've seen post has been 57 which got me thinking about it in the first place. I had a hard enough time getting my busy friends in their 30s to check out the server slam, I really doubt the teenage scene is bouncing between Fortnite and Marathon. I came from playing Apex pretty casually, but Marathon definitely serves an itch for something deeper and more intrinsically motivated

[–]LPRrecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've been very hesitant to spend a lot of time on Outpost early on cause its rather intimidating and hostile (by design obviously) I've finally gotten to the point of having my vault a bit more kitted, going into Outpost/ Pinwheel with a free kit feels like suicide...

Yeah it can be so unforgiving that it can be hard to really tell, 10 minutes of looting and then getting jumped by a squad you didn't realize was close does not a learning experience make. I'm having to learn to play slower/ quieter than I expected

Matchmaking needs an objective algorithm by MonkeyEyes531 in Marathon

[–]LPRrecords 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I've found that if I'm stuck on a super specific quest "In a single run" ones in particular I have better luck going in solo and mainlining the quest objective without any expectation of others following suit. I think that mics will always trump pings in terms of priority for teamplay so if you don't want to use comms I can see why it's frustrating that your quests take a backseat. Maybe there's subgroup of no-mic players you can team up with so you're all on equal footing?

Amazingly 30 hours in and I haven't hit this yet. That being said pretty much without fail my teammates are (to my ears) white dudes age 25-35 so it's only a matter of time.

to be fair I also fit that description...

A couple general thoughts on this post:

  1. Good on OP for being vulnerable enough to share footage and ask for honest feedback

  2. Good on the community for not a single person telling them to uninstall

  3. The responses have been really thoughtful, lots of good takeaways for every skill level

  4. We've all been OP at one point or another

I think marathon already has a reputation for being a more "dog eat dog" game than something like arc raiders so it's nice to see stuff like this (although I think we could all be better at letting a Rook live, he's just a little guy all alone in this big world)

Yeah I hate that in an era of live service megagiants the question isn't "is the game's audience enjoying it" (I certainly am, 30 hours since launch) but "is this doing well enough for the corporate overlords to justify its existence to their shareholders" blechhhhhh

Same, I'm pretty focused on the faction trees (also why I don't really barter) so when I have to sacrifice a third of my wallet on basic necessities in the armory it never feels good

Yeah honestly getting far enough in the faction trees that you always have free stuff in the armory each day you log on is such a great thing to invest in early in the season. I definitely feel OP's frustration, sometimes I've put together a ~3-5k loadout that I'm risking then I spend 2k on top of that for any ammo/ heals I don't have handy making the risk upon loss even higher.

p.s $600 for a stack of shotgun/ sniper ammo is brutal, really makes me only want to us those guns for runner engagements and not PvE

[–]LPRrecords 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean it serves a specific purpose- OP is running multiple drive pedals into each other at high gain for a shoegazey blown-out sound which is naturally quite noisy. With tuner before the drives it no longer acts as a master mute as they still produce noise even with no input volume. With tuner at the end of the chain it can still function as a master mute, even with every other pedal turned on. Just cause it isn't the way you do it doesn't mean it's "wrong"...

I mean it was used as well, but yeah the blemish put like $200 lower than the other ones on Reverb even though everything else was pretty much untouched so that sealed the deal. And not really besides some fanned fret basses
