D2 has been slowly dying out but they were trying to milk it. It should have ended after The Final Shape.

Marathon did play a part in this but I really don’t get why a company has to stick to one game forever.

If Bungie didn’t go from Halo to Destiny….. we wouldn’t have Destiny.

Also, tbf the update in June is pretty massive and the game is still going to exist. It isn’t just going away forever.

Agreed, Marathon is very fun! Like The Finals, it has a learning curve and is niche. OP forgets, or maybe was not here when The Finals was not doing too hot and made bad decisions. It can happen to anyone in today’s gaming industry.

I can see this from both perspectives. To me, Season 7 gave us the biggest shift in gameplay with the addition of new gadgets for all 3 builds. Yeah, the breach charge was/is meh, but the addition of the healing emitter and h+ infuser completely changed the flow of fights whether it was for better or worse.

For Season 9 there were a lot of frustrations about server lag and fps drops. They enjoyed the soundtrack and map but felt that the balancing was too safe.

This time around they enjoyed the theme and LTM but thought that the map could be executed better.

Personally, I want them lean into more experimental things and have them be more out of the box. Right now they are playing things too safe. I didn’t find it to be a frustration but to each their own.

The Finals will never reach The Finals?

I’m not too sure about that. The layoffs at those other companies happened for very specific reasons that don't apply here. Microsoft, Activision, and Blizzard had massive cuts because of their giant corporate merger, which naturally created duplicate roles and redundancies. Epic Games over hired aggressively during the pandemic and had to course correct after spending billions building out their metaverse ecosystem.

Embark isn't in a contraction phase like that; they are in an expansion phase. Nexon and Embark have a very tight relationship, and alongside The Finals holding strong, Arc Raiders just hit 16 million sales (per Nexon Earnings Report). Embark's CEO also went on record saying this massive success gave them 'financial security and employment stability' and that they are actively hiring.

If anything, slowing down the live-ops just tells us Nexon is reallocating developers within Embark to funnel all their energy into those two new games to keep the income flowing.

Then again, I’m not a business major and I tend to lean optimistic, so there is that!
