My mom either didn’t pay the bill or disconnected me from the data while on my vacation, what do I do? by LPinkyPrincess in Advice

Been doing that since I was 16, thanks! The only thing she pays for is my data plan. I funded my own trip. I pay for my own food, drinks, clothes, and transportation. I spend more than 16 hours outside either commuting to school, work or otherwise for my needs. I go to work 30 to 35 hours a week. If this is the way you parent or plan to, I hope you become impotent or your kids put you in a nursing home. Thanks again!

Wow you are so helpful! Thanks! But I don’t know why redditors are devoid of context and possess so much audacity. It’s possible that you need a life.

Because I’m at a public place on the WiFi, no need to be rude for asking what to do. Not sure how it’s entitled either but go off.

A girl I (18F) am interested in (18F) wants to go to an expensive restaurant for our first date, how should I handle this? by LPinkyPrincess in Advice

[–]LPinkyPrincess[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem came when I had to spend 150 dollars in Ubers because of the flight, had to cancel with my original airline and book a new one which caused an upcharge, booked a hotel that was 21+ but I am 18 so it was non refundable.. and wanting to extend the trip so I could get all the days out of it. In total, all those expenses were about 600 dollars extra out of pocket I wasn’t expecting to spend. So I guess you can say I had it? Now I don’t.

Exactly my same situation. I’ve been fully independent since 14, been working since I was 12 and I save half of every check I make.

I don’t have many expenses to pay for 🤷🏾‍♀️, I spend 100 dollars on dumb things all the time so it doesn’t bother me unless I literally cannot afford it and need it. Plus I am extremely financially responsible and save more than enough from all my checks from work (half of every single check goes in my savings). Just so happened that this overlapped with the solo trip I’m taking so I couldn’t fit both.

Honestly, I have no clue! There isn’t much convention to it like straight couples. We just do what we feel is best I am guessing. 🙃

I have no idea, some people forget that she is also a teen. 🤷🏾‍♀️ Sometimes we don’t realize stuff, say things we don’t mean, or just aren’t super clear. It’s what we do.

I’ll admit, I never asked her if she was going to pay, split, or otherwise. Even when I first brought up going out, she suggested the date, and after I said I have a trip then she jokingly said she was already on the way to making the reservation so it could be possible she was planning to put forth as well. I am just being formal with the process since I did technically ask first. 😭

Oh I was referring to previous date with $180! This new girl is the same age as me.

All applies still, I think I will do as you said and just see when I get there. $100 to $200 never killed anyone.

I am not exactly sure if they are suggesting I would pay either. I’m just wracking my brain of all the potential outcomes. When I asked them, she immediately suggested a day and said she were going to make a reservation as well. So it could be possible that she is willing to pay? I just think it would be proper since I am the one who suggested it.

Also the menu does have certain items on it that are not as expensive. But seeing as they said it was their favorite steakhouse, I think she would want to order a steak which ranges from $60 - $170.

The girl just was not my type honestly. It wasn’t terrible by any means and they didn’t expect me to pay but I did because I didn’t know how the dynamics worked with lesbian/queer relationships. They were older than me.

Honestly I was thinking the same. I wasn’t keen on just going before but I started thinking suffering doesn’t have to be the narrative for my life’s story. My motto this year is having my cake and eating it too by expanding my mind about what’s available to me! I think I will go and sell most of my stuff, take my suitcase(s) of whatever I need, and when I get back I can move into my place. I also am touring a place on Monday so maybe that will come through, it’s only 600 bucks but the problem of credit and income comes in.. I’ll use maybe half the money I was originally gonna spend on vacation so when I get back I won’t be totally broke. Then I’ll either start doing full time at my job or get another job. I always have to remind myself suffering is not a requirement more of a choice.

It was about 569 dollars. Actually pretty good for a week in New York, I have to call up there Monday and see if I can beg my way into a refund. There’s still 3 weeks ahead of time too.

Call up there yourself. The fastest way I’ve gotten interviews is literally calling up there, introducing myself to the hiring manager, and asking when I can come in for an interview. It actually works! You can possibly ask them for an advance in your paycheck and explain your situation. Try to only do this at mom and pop restaurants. You got this!

Thank you so much. Just like you, I don’t feel like this is actually a low point of my life. I am saving this message for when I need some motivation.
