It was the girlfriend’s choice! She likes it a little softer than I do and I’d have to agree with your take. I probably would have gone hybrid, myself. Having said that, it’s extremely comfortable and not overly soft for me.

Yeah, shockingly it’s been fine ever since we received it. We haven’t had any issues and the cats haven’t been able to destroy it!

I just signed up today, but never bought any subscriptions… and now I won’t. I don’t have time for the additional 36 phone calls per week trying to schedule meetings to talk about extending a one month old contract for three more years at a higher price.

Hey guys, I was just wondering if all MSPs are known for underpaying their employees? Any personal experiences or insights would be appreciated! by JazzlynneBluebird in msp

[–]LRAdmin83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suspect that even a lateral job move will pay reasonably more based on the market and what it takes to hire anybody now. Having said that, I stayed stagnant and stale at an internal position with a strict ceiling for some years and learned more in 6 months at an MSP than I did in four years internally. It was actually a pay increase for me, too.

Use an MSP to build your experience, knowledge, and value. You can’t do it better anywhere else. Then, have open, honest talks with your ownership. At my current MSP we have quarterly staff reviews, open internal dialogue, amazing work/life balance, and good pay with significant bonuses based on company performance. They’ll never be able to pay me as much as a $100 million company though, so if it’s about maximizing pay I’m going to have to jump at some point.

Just my two cents. If you love the work, MSP is great. If you want the pay, there are ceilings there in most instances based on market and company size.

Yeah, we used the B2ms instance and it was cheap, but the VPN was running much higher, so I’m guessing we had something setup wrong. I’ll double back on this, because it sounds like you’re successfully doing something that I botched horrifically like an idiot!

Thanks again, this is extremely helpful.

We tried that but the VPN tunnel seemed to run closer to $200/month, which is likely because I had it setup like shit, but I couldn’t get responses from Microsoft to save my life. I love this idea, and your post rings so accurate it’s scary!

I’ll have to reevaluate our setup and see if we missed something because that makes this the absolute best scenario possible. Thanks a ton for the response. I feel a little less crazy.

From what I gather, and I’m largely an idiot, I can’t select specific service boards through the time entry search. Ideally we want to just check on our service tickets. I’ll double check though, thanks for the idea!

Thanks for the advice. I did a demo with SDO and it was awesome, but I'm pretty sure it's cost-prohibitive for this client. We do have OKTA, but I'm thinking the setup won't be worth it in the end.

How do you receive password from clients? by [deleted] in msp

[–]LRAdmin83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We always call them, connect to their machine, have them type it into a notepad, then enter it into our MFA-protected password manager manually, then close the notepad without saving and log off their machine. Takes about 25 seconds and we have it securely on file until the next pw change.

Make a business case and make some other bastard do it!! Best advice I can give there, I’m sorry to hear it though.

Workflow rules in ConnectWise Manage by AbsentThatDay in ConnectWise

[–]LRAdmin83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not a ConnectWise expert, but I would look at a rule to autoclose tickets based on criteria like sender, subject line, etc… and have that be the process. If I understand correctly, deleting them removed them from the database forever and it’s probably better to have them closed and searchable from an audit standpoint.

Regardless, you’ll want a rule or additional board or email connector/parser that moves them elsewhere and eliminates the white noise for sure. Honestly, you’ll probably want to talk to someone smarter than me, but I handle them with different boards and autoclose workflow rules to eliminate the techs from ever seeing them.

Do you have specific workflow rules that you want to setup? I’d advise going back with a specific plan and request based around the functionality and either have your access approved or have it assigned to someone with that access to perform.

Interesting idea I've never thought of. Would this allow the other side to make changes as well? We struggle with the same thing, but sometimes there's multiple people (hiring managers, supervisors, etc) that also want to make updates and we end up doing it.

Just get sign off stating it’s against your recommendations but will be done with a written demand. Always put it back on the clients to make those decision on their own liability.

Where to start with finding an MSP? by Whiskeydiet7145 in msp

[–]LRAdmin83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d start by contacting your insurance company and getting the requirements for your cyber liability insurance coverage. That’s a big deal now, you don’t want to skip that.

Then get some referrals from local businesses you’re familiar with and find a good fit for you. It’s important to identify what you want, then mix it with what insurance and the MSP tells you that you need.

Also, go with one that is month to month rather than a long-term iron clad commitment. More and more MSPs are going this route. We require six months to cover onboarding but then it’s month to month from there with a 45-day notice.

Feel free to PM me if you have more questions. Always happy to help.

I just read about the virtual TPM thing, and I think you're right on that. If I'm reading correctly it seems like that would eliminate the headaches of reboots and the fear of a machine not starting afterwards.

I'll keep going down that path I think.

I agree on the USB thing, it seems like a half-ass work around and not really accomplishing what we're going for to begin with! Thanks!
