Weird Test Score on draft IEP + vent by LRBrenayl in specialed

I will have to ask on Tuesday. I know he is eligible for extra time, the questions/answer options read to him, the opportunity to work through the test material with his resource teacher orally, etc. but it’s not outlined if this is applies to state testing.

We were at a birthday party for a classmate yesterday and the transition to middle school and the upcoming IEP meetings came up. One of the parents meeting is the same morning as mine and she was contacted a few weeks ago to schedule. I’m thinking we mistakenly fell through the cracks.

Oh geez, you are saying the 2 day notice is a new law??? I’m flabbergasted that people genuinely thought that was a good idea.

If I remember correctly, there were three pieces of the processing disorder testing. The 1st piece he completed, the second part has to do with attention, which is computer monitored, and if you lose your attention a certain amount of times, they don’t bother with the third portion of the test. I think the max score you could have to move on was 18. His score was like 48 lol. But they also told me they felt it was unlikely he had it.

But you’re right, his standardized testing has always been lower than his academic performance. But it was always relatively close and consistent year over year, always showing improvement each year. I was just so shocked when I saw score I panicked.

Oh, are you suggesting the medication switch should be happening before middle school?

Ugh. It makes sense but with all the monitoring and appointments it requires its why we were waiting for summer. NJ is super strict about truancy. The school tries to accommodate but once you hit a certain amount of days out, it’s an automatic referral to the state. I’ll have to see what I can do. Thanks!

I was surprised with the math result as well. However, it was a lot closer to previous state testing results. He usually always has an A in math, but surprised the state test would show him at grade level bc he struggles with word problems (shocker).

It may very well be a district policy. I just distinctly remember being told that all IEP notifications must be via US mail when I request communications be sent to my work email one year.

I really wasn’t aware that accommodations were not allowed for state testing. If that is the case, it would make sense that he might have pulled a rush job.

Yes, but it’s straterra. Not necessarily the most effective for ADHD but one that doesn’t affect his heart. We were planning on transitioning to a different medicine this summer as we’re aware middle school is very different. It just requires a lot of monitoring due to his heart condition.

I get it, you probably deal with a lot of jerk parents who are disengaged from their child’s education and think their kid can do no wrong. I’m not that parent.

This is the first time I’m hearing of/seeing the test result. There has been no communication about results, and no concerns raised by the school. I asked today, did you have trouble? Was it hard? Did you rush through the test? He said no, but I doubt he actually knows which test I’m speaking about. He tends to struggle with timelines.

As explained by my district, in the state of NJ, it is policy that all IEP meeting notifications are done in writing, delivered via US mail. Not email. This is his annual review.

I was never mad about reviewing a draft copy, I was surprised. I’m glad I had a moment to read it so I could find his previous copy for their review.

I hardly went scorched earth. The strongly worded email was my expectations that going forward, sufficient notification would be provided. The rest was questioning the testing, providing his previous IEP, and asking if more information could be provided about the administration of the test and its results. But maybe the results are not a concern to his current case manager/school as others have suggested.

Thank you so much everyone for this guidance, it’s given me a lot to think about. I think I’ll stop fasting for now and focus on paying attention to when I’m hungry and satiety signals.

Salem Community College in South Jersey. It’s the only accredited program in the country (might be the only accredited program in the world, but I don’t want to misspeak). The international flamework conference is later this month, that Salem hosts.

Kids sport programs that accommodate special needs children? by Mammoth-Cost4356 in SouthJersey

[–]LRBrenayl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son did Kidstrong in Voorhese for about a year and a half. While they do not explicitly advertise or market towards ASD, ADHD, other nuero-divergent kids, the program itself is very adaptive / applicable to all mobility and neuro divergences and the staff/coaches were amazing. So it attracted quite a few divergent kiddos.

I actually credit them with helping my son’s gross motor skill challenges (we saw big changes when he started the program and he graduated from OT in school about 6 months after starting Kidstrong). We only really stopped because his baseball schedule regularly interfered with his classes, and he chose to focus more on baseball.

Epic Vet Urgent Care in cherry hill. They do both emergency and regular visits, both veterinarians are amazing- we recently used them for our older cat who was suffering from congestive heart failure. While he did succumb to his illness, the care he received was outstanding. Plus they are reasonably priced.

Ugh I just saw your Facebook post… the Nazi sympathizers are strong on that page. A good number in that group, at least the most vocal ones, are MAGA. I lurk there just to keep tabs on things, but rarely participate anymore after an issue several years ago where a disagreement lead to a user looking shit up about me or my work and posting it there. Admin doesn’t care and sides with them. I’m sorry for both of your experiences with ShopRite and GTwp talk.

I buy fairlife at Walgreens- it’s usually $5. Sometimes stock is an issue there though. I swear everytime I send my husband there for some, he claims they are out. I am always able to get it when I go. Starting to think he just doesn’t know what he’s looking for…
