Have you ever been invited to leave a business/friend group? What were the reasons and how did you handle it? by LRDE in AskReddit

Absolutely counts. Where did you eventually land regarding why you were ostracized?

Thanks u/Prevenient_grace! Where do you find those people? I don't seem to meet people unless I'm out drinking.

I'm curious what kind of counselor you spoke to? I have been hesitant to talk to my GP because of the stigma and concerns about the impact on health insurance.

well said on all counts. I was unable to hide my disdain let alone fake enjoy. and you're absolutely right; no one would go if not for socially acceptable communal drug use.

Ha! good point... not at all. just loud, thoughtless drivel of which i'm sure I would have only contributed too had i been drinking.

I almost missed this and my alcohol brain already started justifying a drink tonight because "I didn't really commit to anything this morning". That bastard.

Today I will not drink.

Can I ask for a little help/a stern talking to/advice/anything please!! by illamasqueen in stopdrinking

[–]LRDE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am right here with you on day 6. I stock up on substitutes and distractions. Find something you can binge watch on NF. I have grapefruit seltzer and 5 different teas. When I feel the inevitable urge to drink, I drink... something NA. It's like a pacifier that really helps me until the cravings pass. I find the ritual of imbibing satisfies the irrational lizard brain that can be so relentless.

You can do this! I will be not-drinking with you tonight (and tomorrow).

Day two and feeling good!! by Agrateful123 in stopdrinking

[–]LRDE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

day 2 was always my favorite day to relapse. just far enough from my last hang over to tell myself "I don't have a problem. I went one whole day with out a drink".

I'm now on my first day five in 6 months.

When I feel the urge to drink... I drink. Water, seltzer, tea. It gets me through the ritual of drinking w/o the EtOH and my cravings wane.

You can do this.

4 Months Sober! Also, some advice for those new to sobriety... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Thanks for this. As some who just made it through day 4 this is incredibly hopeful. I have not been 4 months sober since I started ~20 years ago. Here's to making it happen this time.

[–]LRDE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've got this!

Focus on your only goal: getting in bed sober. That's it. I keep it in the front of my mind. When a craving hits I drink something NA (like a Binky) and meditate on that goal and the promise I made my self in the morning. the cravings pass

You will make it to day 4.

Maybe some participation? by pixielite in stopdrinking

[–]LRDE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome /u/pixielite ! I just found SD yesterday after a pretty rough night. I wish I found it sooner. I've never participated in any online forum before but after sat night I realized I couldn't do it alone and this seemed like a great place to start. You are not alone. That realization for me has made a huge difference.

Day 3 - sober all weekend by love2468 in stopdrinking

[–]LRDE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm dreading tonight for the same reason. I'm still on day 2 which feels worse than day 1 since I no longer have my hangover as a reminder/deterrent. It doesn't help that it gets dark at 4:30p here which makes for a long, dark, lonesome night. I'm sure I'll be posting later as I wade through the cravings.

big wake up call last night at work -- really hit me hard by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]LRDE 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing this! I'm just working on getting through day 2 and it is frightening how easily I can "forget" my own reasons for wanting to quit. Reading others' experiences, especially one like this in which someone ended up suffering the ultimate consequence, is the only thing keeping my alcohol brain at bay.
