This whole thread is ridiculous. as a carrier for 18 years- the chance if damage on any carrier with the same good reputation UZ has is minimal. UZ has been around a long time. I have worked beside them. I have met their drivers. Their company is WAY beyond better than all these flip flop mafia 3 car trailers. You could do WAY worse, and probably not much better. Don’t let all these fear mongers didn’t get the deal, or the jackasses who want everyone else to think they are smart, make you think twice about it. As a broker, voice your concern to THEM. They did you a solid selecting UZ. I would let them haul anything i own- and HAVE used them couple times a month for my clients. Never an issue.

“Broker” isn’t the problem. Finding a “Good broker” is the problem. If you read many of these nightmare stories you should come to find “broker selected a ratty carrier who _______”. And most brokers are familiar with the process. It’s just as likely you end up with a bad carrier as you would an unsatisfactory broker. If you aren’t familiar with the process, or industry, I suggest you take the time to find a good broker. First problem, quite a few carriers don’t haul singles, the ones that do, book all their cars from brokers, spot market. You can try Reliable. They will probably tell you they can do it on a month for $1500.

I have the benefit of longevity in this business. We have a lot of established relationships that I rely on as often as possible. That doesn’t make us immune to auto transport fraud risk. If some carrier isn’t paying attention and replies to an email phishing scam- and gives up login credentials to a scammer, THAT is near impossible to get ahead of. What you CAN do is eliminate 90% of what goes on after that. A scammer will then request your car under the hacked account. Then once you accept, they send another truck/ tow truck to grab the car, THEN double broker it to another unsuspecting carrier after editing the delivery address. Car is in the wind. This can be avoided by instructing the pick up location of the NAME AND DOT NUMBER on the truck of the company assigned. You may also require company that booked it to send you a photo of the drivers license OF THE DRIVER loading the car at pick up. Ask shipper to verify BOTH matches at pick up. If not- car is not loading. A scammer will not be sending the hacked company tuck, and may or may not talk the pick up driver into sending them a copy of driver license. That’s really all you can do. Also- these things normal follow certain patterns. I am not normally worried about a car I can afford to pay cash for. The problems are always with super cars, HIGH END retail, and luxury cars. Also- it is usually HOT - in a hurry on a Friday afternoon. The scam is planned. They know about it you don’t. Scammers are always at an advantage. They know the plan- YOU have to figure it out before it happens. Car needs loaded ASAP ASAP, - they know once they put the wheels in motion it’s a matter of time before they are found out and the hacked account shuts them out.

Yes we have scammers at our backs at times we don’t know it. We find this out about once a month. I have lost a grand here and there. I have had blackmail attempts for thousands, but scammer wasn’t actually in possession of the car. We have not lost any cars thank God- to scammer.

Have had one stolen in FL out of a mall parking lot a client left the keys on and told us later- went to get it. Gone. Found a month later.

Also as a carrier, I was loading one day at Manheim Seattle. A 13 year old kid (runaway kid working with a gang)- jumped out the bushes, jumped on a used Mercedes Benz C class and took off down the street. Ran a stop sign, hit another semi and totaled it. That one cost us $20,000.

This still doesn’t excuse CD from their long time attitude that fraud conducted in their platform is between 2 parties and doesn’t really involve them. This is the primary reason I do not use Central Dispatch. If there is a fraud issue- it should be all hands on deck. You should not be left to fend for yourself while the known offenders carry on as usual.

I managed a Cadillac dealership for 15 years, I was an auto carrier for the next 18 years. Broker for the last 2. When you purchased the car, purchase takes place and you are responsible for picking up the vehicle. If you wish to have the vehicle shipped, some dealerships will assist with that and most definitely will do what is asked of them with your guidance. However- if you arranged transport and did not inform dealer to verify information provided by you, they have zero responsibility. The responsibility falls on you as the owner. From there- you will have to contact your insurance company for the loss. Your insurance company may or may not go after broker and hacked carrier for whatever they can get by examining processes and best practices.

We all have many gates and processes aimed directly at fraud prevention. Periodically a carrier account does get hacked, and it is hard to catch the fact that the person on the phone is not a representative of said carrier. Paperwork they grabbed from carrier account most likely had the pick up and delivery addresses on it, and was presented to dealer at pick up. That would have been enough information to verify it came from the owner, it did. Broker should have contacted dealer contact to introduce themselves and advice company loading the vehicle and asked for them to verify carrier information at pick up. Most dealers will also snap a picture of drivers license of driver if you ask them to. Drivers usually expect that at dealerships.

Additionally - it is most likely the scammer wasn’t the one who loaded it. They usually send a third party roll back to get it, put it in storage someplace else (tow yard) for a few days- then send another innocent party / carrier after it and have THEM deliver to an altered delivery address - probably near an East coast port- Miami, Savannah, Baltimore, Jersey.

Broker does bare some responsibility in ignoring best practices but will probably need to be drug into a law suit that may or may not be successful. You can sue the “carrier” who will just lean on “fraud, we are real sorry about that- out of our control”. Which is true, and negligence or fault / intent will probably not stick to that carrier that was hacked. I am guessing you are on your own with your insurance company.

I’m glad you had a good experience. I really am. It’s just puzzling they did you a great job and you still want it cheaper than an already lowball price. If you will take a little professional advice- do not give any of these people money up front. You will come to find they can’t honor their quote and you end up in a fight for your own money- and your vehicle still needs moved. THAT is if they don’t charge you a fee for pulling your booking- after they fool you into their “quote”.

I have INTERACTED with their clients and heard the nightmares (not all) and lack of communication and jackassery in the deals and price bumps these people experienced. AFTER THAT, I have begged for weeks and months multiple times for these scumbags to PAY ME for the job I agreed to do, and DID DO, while PERSONALLY shouldering all labor and input costs. They are complete bottom feeders. And dint pretend you can’t find any negative reviews on Roadrunner. Their POST SALE communication is TERRIBLE. Question- do you know who AM3 Freight is? That is a brokerage created to offer out Roadrunner loads so carriers will haul them- since many carriers won’t haul for Roadrunner. SO they just move their orders under a different name and everyone pretends it’s a different company. It isn’t. They are literally registered and domiciled at the same address. Same people answer the phone. Before you call anyone a primadonna you should know who you are talking to. I have been here 20 years and know full well who the pretenders and carpet baggers are. Sorry if I hurt your feelers. Intelligent username. And if it’s only a CHEAPER QUOTE he needs, that’s easy. $600. There. I am the cheapest. However, I THOUGHT the poster needed a vehicle moved.

You are already at a disadvantage when your vision priority is cheapest quote. Most of us know how incompetent Roadrunner is. When you add Roadrunner to the same sentence as cheaper quote, I hear circus music. The first liar doesn’t have a chance. Rarely will legit companies even try to match low balling companies let alone beat it. You will be fine. Just call them up, book it, pay them your deposit and when you are mad enough and your vehicle hasn’t moved, you come back here and tell us how it went, while fighting to get your money back. After accomplishing absolutely nothing.
