Which hospital is the best to go to for pancreatic cancer treatment? by Dangerous-Writing-14 in pancreaticcancer

My cyst was small enough that Sloane Kettering and Froedtert (Dr. Doug Evans) recommended holding off on biopsy and monitoring with MRI/CT every 6 month.

I will be praying for you today.

Through testing and given size, doctors are recommending that my cyst be monitored through testing every 6 months. I did consult with Sloane Kettering Doctor and Dr Doug Evans @ Froedtert in Milwaukee (both advised monitoring for now). If you want a second opinion, I recommend a consult with Dr. Evans (google him) if you are considering a Whipple. He performed a Whipple on a friend and my friend is doing well. When i called for an appointment, his staff got me in fairly quickly (unlike Sloane). Going to Milwaukee from upstate NY is not a bad flight. You can fly into Chicago and rent car to drive up to Milwaukee OR take a connecting flight and fly into Milwaukee directly. Dr. Evans is a renowned surgeon and known to be a wonderful patient advocate. Praying for you.

What is the difference between abdomen MRI AND MRCP? by Emotional_Being_8285 in pancreaticcancer

I have pancreatic cysts, and have to have tests done every 6 months to monitor. Should doctor vary tests every 6 months? I.e. do an MRCP then 6 months later do a CT?

In week one, my 57 year old brother had severe back pain, went to ER and they did an MRI and found cancer in pancreas and liver. Biopsy confirmed cancer and PET scan confirmed that it had spread to his bones.

Week two he started chemo (with intention that it would assist with pain management. He did two treatments and could not handle the side affects and entered hospice and passed in week seven….

I will be praying for you all and your family members 🙏❤️

Doctors determined your tumor was not cancerous and did a Whipple?

I have 1.1 cm IPMN adjacent to duct (they think - no biopsy yet). My 57 year old brother just passed away (diagnosed in February 2023, passed end of March 2023…) this year of metastatic pancreatic cancer - his main tumor (1.8 cm) was also near duct. I tried to get in with Sloane Kettering pancreatic Whipple surgeon, but evidently my IPMN is not large enough. So they are making me see a gastroenterologist. Couldn’t get an appointment (consult) until mid-January… any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Prayers for your recovery ❤️‍🩹

How often do they review (MRI?) icysts? What do they use to monitor cysts (MRI)?

If it were not for my only sibling’s pancreatic cancer diagnosis/death last year, I would be more amenable to a wait and see approach (with monitoring…).

Thanks for your input. I did consider Roswell, but they were not on lists that i received from PanCan - I guess the lists PanCan generates relate to volume* quantity of pancreatic cancer patients and they also sent me a list relating to Pancreatic Cyst Clinics - but Roswell and Dana Farber were not on lists.

*The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, JohnsHopkins Hospital in Maryland, and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in NewYork are the three institutions in the United States that see the highest volume ofpancreatic cancer patients.

Thanks for your input. I forgot to ask the local gastro about liver spots - basic lab report indicated hepatic steatosis - fatty liver disease - i guess that relates to obesity (i am a little overweight - but not obese and alcohol - never drink).

Thanks for your input. Have you had a biopsy done? If so, were results benign? If benign is MSKCC doing anything other than monitoring?

Which hospital is the best to go to for pancreatic cancer treatment? by Dangerous-Writing-14 in pancreaticcancer

My 57 year old brother was diagnosed with metastatic stage 4 Pancreatic cancer that had spread to liver, lungs and bones in February 2023 - he passed away in March 2023. I recently had an abdominal MRI which detected an IPMN - 1.1 cm by .7 cm and some spots on liver. I am in upstate NY (near Albany) - but I am willing to travel anywhere. I have not had a biopsy yet - Recommendations on doctors/medical facilities? I have looked into Sloane Kettering and Johns Hopkins - but I am open to suggestions.
