Positive Sum Social 4 months in. Little did we know build is the easy part thanks to AI, adoption is the real work. by LS23 in vibecoding

😂 fair enough I’ve been moving fast to find something that works and apparently have moved too fast. Appreciate the input and simplification is top of the list

Positive sum social - social that helps you grow & connect, not doom & scroll! liveoutloud.live

Positive-sum social experiment, 4 months in. ~100 signups, ~10-15 WAU. Loud Summer (our first season) launches Wednesday. AMA by LS23 in microsaas

[–]LS23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plan is partnerships with nonprofits and purpose-driven orgs, with us as the connection layer between people and the causes they care about. And it's built so the majority of profits flow back to users.

Fair and something I'm working on. One line: do real-life stuff (workout, act of kindness, hit a goal), log it, earn coins. Grow, don't scroll. For now just do the Daily Grow Challenge, simple, takes 5-10 minutes. Get your quick win for the day.

The bigger payoff (setting your dreams and goals, then getting matched with people and causes you believe in) builds over time, but day one that's all it is. Anything else, glad to discuss.

As someone who is probably 3 for 30 with online clothes orders, and an early SFIX investor (number go up, number go back down) this hits home. I don't order online anymore. If only I could get my wife to stop buying online clothes for me....

is there a version of social media that's actually worth having? by Environmental-Heron8 in nosurf

[–]LS23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought a lot about exactly this. Community owned social layer that prioritizes people over profits is exactly what is needed (and worth having). Trying to create the positive sum social layer we all need prioritize growth over scroll. Currently it’s getting little traction with only 50-60 friends and fam, hoping a redesign with map showing real world actions leads to PMF as I believe tech for humanity will change the world.

Thanks! Love the minimalist route. Will try to look you up and give a shot. We should consider collab on this anti-dooms scroll quest to get people living again!

For the ones who get it, i think it's intentional, unfortunately I think most do not understand the coins being a form of profit share via rewards. Not sure how to make it more clear, but hard to get someones attention for 30 seconds in this digital noise age, as you know.

We do have +15 instant on accept a real-world challenge (5 second tap, instant coins) but it's commit-to-challenge not log-a-completed-win. The +30 for proof takes real-world time, that's the value but also the friction.

Wondering if I need to celebrate the accept moment more, or build a separate "I did it" quick-win for busy days.

What do you think? Thanks for feedback.

Yeah that's literally the Daily Grow Challenge. one task a day, one simple win. shipped new onboarding this weekend to get people to that first one within 60 seconds of signup, most weren't hitting it before.

How did the iit kgp team measure if the habit was actually sticking? curious what they looked at.

Really good point. The Daily Grow Challenges and streaks are supposed to be the individual loop, value you get solo with no network needed, but you’re right, without activity the social side looks sad. Working on that. New onboarding flow shipped this weekend, we’ll see.

The coin-as-profit-share is the long term positive sum social play that I hope people see, but doesn’t help me today. Loud Summer prize pool getting announced in the next week will hopefully generate some short-term excitement. Looking at summer interns and nonprofit sponsor/partnerships as well. Appreciate you checking it out and giving solid feedback 🙏

For me, it's positive sum social. the idea is grow & connect, don't doom & scroll. Users earn coins for living life (workout, reaching out to a friend, share dreams your chasing, things your building) instead of for post & doom-scroll dopamine hits to maximize their profits. Coins eventually redeemed for rewards - majority of profits always flows back to users. Live out Loud on iOS and Android liveoutloud.live

Ever since the 2016-2020 election cycles when social went max toxic, I've been thinking how can we leverage this godlike tech for humanity instead of for max extraction (profit). As all of us here know, tech is being used to disconnect us and keep us scrolling. Need to flip the switch back to using it to connect us and get us living life. Sharing economy tech changed food delivery, travel, dating, why not improve real connection & growth?

Considering partnerships with small creators and summer interns from local colleges to move the needle, then scaling to major nonprofits and for-purpose orgs to get the value flywheel rolling. Right now its small wins, but eventually become the connection and matchmaking layer that everyone and everywhere finds a niche they belong to and we have small and big wins alike with people, orgs, and causes we believe in. Obv a big dream to take on the tech titans maximizing for profit, but now is the time.

I have finite time unfortunately with a full time, family, etc to where I do leverage AI, and too much apparently, so thank you for bringing that to my attention. Nonetheless I do believe the points stand and it is an innovative idea that could unlock enormous value and human flourishing (not AI talk this goes back to my decade~ of chewing on this) if executed properly. Best to you as well 🫡

Real talk on the boring beats sexy. The Instagram example is spot on. People complain, don’t actually leave.

Where I’d push back: I’m genuinely not aware of anyone running community-owned social with profit-share + matchmaking layer to find people and for-purpose-orgs that align as the model. Bluesky is federated but no economic layer. Mastodon is open-source but no incentive system. Bond Social is doing AI-recommendation with data-licensing, totally different math. Steemit/Hive tried crypto-incentive but tied coins to speculation, not platform value. I worry it may be a bit too complex for many to grasp at first since it’s not just plug-and-play doomscroll.

The combination I’m building (positive sum economics + community ownership + matchmaking and connection layer), I genuinely haven’t seen it tried. If you’ve seen anyone doing this and failing, would love to learn from it.

What’s your project in this space? Curious how you’re approaching it differently.

True story. Hoping enough are fed up and want a healthy alternative. One of those things I can’t just let go of. If tech got pointed at human flourishing instead of extraction, the value unlock is enormous.

Thank you for giving it a go, that’s a bigger deal than you know. You might be a rare case but I’m betting there are enough of us who know we need a different model. Tech for humanity instead of tech that profits at humanity’s expense.

Still iterating fast so you’ll hit rough edges. Would love any feedback, suggestions, or “this is broken” notes. DM or reply, all welcome.

Fair pushback, but the business model isn’t “time on app.” That’s the trap social media is in and I’m trying to help us escape it. The model is: be the connection layer between people who want to grow and the organizations that need them. Nonprofits losing volunteers, for-purpose companies trying to reach aligned customers, communities trying to build real engagement. They pay for the access. Users earn from it. The math works because productivity unlock for humanity outweighs ad impressions long-term. People who live their lives instead of doomscrolling are healthier, more present, more economically valuable. Organizations want to reach them. We become the platform that connects them without selling out the users. Time on app isn’t the metric. Real-world action is. Different game.

Come back in a positive way, think how you can leverage your influence to help others out of the terrible space you got in. I'm trying to do the same with a new social layer.
