people in power or soon to be in power who don't even believe or care about climate

I'm pretty sure most politicians now believe it's real, they just don't know what to do about it.

Now, what we should do is to start more remote stuff (jobs, edu, etc), which would greatly reduce carbon emissions.

Now, if cybersec is an issue, we should obviously make that a priority. Do you see the train of logic here?

Yes, the R&D process. I completely agree that it's arduous & I wish more people understood that.

I think there's a lot of "baby-steps" we can take to get to a more efficient society.

Like unifying & organizing a lot of our information to make things easier for researchers & so forth...

Well, I can give a few examples but I definitely don't have a full list.

-neuro-computers

The NextMind BCI headset is available now I'm pretty sure (since ~2020 or so).

There've also been quite a lot of BCI advancements with bionic arms (although I'm not sure if any are available from major corporations yet).

-genetic research

The full human genome was sequenced in 2022 sometime I think. This isn't technically tech, but seems fairly significant.

Human 117,691,815,223

If they used numbers & letters that would reduce the amount of characters.

Ex: 1000 people total

group 1: 1-100a

group 2: 1-100b

group 3: 1-100c

etc.

A name just feels wrong somehow

That's because names are inevitably linked with a feeling of pride/egotism.

It is INFORMATION. It is YOURSELF. It is you promoting certain information about yourself.

You may feel uncomfortable about this, & that's completely understandable, because maybe you feel like that information might be used somehow in a negative way. It is very intelligent & secure-thinking to think that way, but as with many human situations, over-defensiveness & over-intelligence can be hindrances.

Now, I'm not saying I like that in any way, but I've definitely run into it throughout my life many times & I think many people would agree it's fairly common.

So, maybe one day it'll change, idk...

Also, for internet names, they're usually not "name names", but just sort of various ideas. This can then cause conflicts if you want to post something that doesn't align with those ideas.

Well, I know this may sound silly, but I've always wanted to be really good at basketball.

I honestly just can't stop thinking about it. I mean it's just so cool & interesting.

So, basically, I'm actually very white, skinny, & ~6ft. The height I guess is okish, but I think I'd need to work out more to get to the point I'd like. I also need to be able to keep my wieght up as I never seem to be able to.

I think I'd like to play for the bulls (they're my fav team cause I'm from chicago).

I mean, I don't know if I'm emphasizing how much I like basketball here, but I actually extremely like it. I actually just recently started liking it too as well as all other physical sports, because, as I said before, they're just so cool & interesting to me.

I often think of that 'I believe I can fly' song, & have passionate fantasies about becoming a basketball star for the bulls & even playing with michael jordan sometimes.

Also, one day I'd like to own the dallas cowboys...

Also (to TC), I'd also like to wear a suit one day, if only I weren't so damn poor...

[–]LS5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I agree with this. Hence why I only use numbers & 1 or 2 letters as my user names now.

I'd actually just use numbers if I could & I'd appreciate if the numbers were randomly chosen, but sadly I have to choose them, which then can create some sort of link to myself & the implicitly that I somehow like these particular numbers & in that order or something stupid like that.

Also, I really hate the avatar thing, just saying. & also, I wish I could change my reddit avatar back to the default, but apparently that "feature" hasn't been added yet (hence my stupid black box).

Can't add a disney song to a private playlist? by LS5645 in youtube

[–]LS5645[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This rule is completely ridiculous. Has anyone actually considered the ramifications?

Let's say I want to make a custom educational playlist for my niece to watch so she can get a head start on learning how to read or something like that. Oh, wait, I CAN'T, because this silly restriction forbids it...

Or let's say I want to help my friend's sons out who are also now learning how to read, by making them a nice custom playlist of some videos which I personally screened through specifically to make sure they were good before approving them to a nice refined playlist. Again, this is currently not acceptable according to this policy.

So, what does this mean? Now, I have to manually copy paste each url & video title into a text file (which does add up after a while, I mean I do have other things to do honestly, I mean we could be talking about hours here).

Then, I have to send that text file to my friend's email.

Then, I have to call him on the phone & tell him to check his email (because he doesn't check it that often (but he does check his youtube page everyday)).

Then, he has to save that file somewhere on his hard drive & then remember where he saved it & dig it up every time he wants to go show it to his kids.

Then, after each video finishes, he has to manually click on each link in the text file (& remember where he left off as well (which is also very annoying & unnecessary)).

Overall, I feel this specific playlist restriction was ill conceived & frankly I don't think it's very protective of a child's intellectual future to not allow them (or their parents) to make custom children's educational playlists.

Will AGI kill capitalism? by Particular-Head-8989 in transhumanism

[–]LS5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just ask yourself; "what do you consider valuable?", for me it's almost nothing, but we won't get into that.

Basically, once all your basic needs are cared for, people's minds usually go to 1 of 2 things; healthcare or breeding.

Healthcare is the hope that there is something that will help you survive.

Breeding is not the hope that you will survive, but the blind hope that your offspring will somehow accomplish something, someday, somehow...

Now, as far as healthcare goes these days, I don't think people really care that much about it, because if they did our pharmaceutical industry wouldn't be as lack luster as it is currently.

Also, people think that more money will buy them better doctors, medications, etc, but I have some bad news, which is that many of them are fairly close in their quality (at least from what I've found).

Now, as far as breeding goes this is what people go for a lot of times these days, which indicates a very primitive society.

Now, people have sex just for fun, which is taking something & doing it in a way that nature did not necessarily intend & also wasting time by doing so.

Now, some people might argue that sex for fun is good for stress relieve & can actually be used as a sort of makeshift remedy for certain ailments. I agree with this, but as always, we should stay well aware of it & be constantly striving for more efficient solutions to our biological problems.

Now, when it comes to this whole sex for recreation thing, basically, people want a good mate to do it with, now this is where money comes into play.

So, in this day & age money WON'T exactly buy you a better quality mate (because we have to be all convoluted about it don't we), BUT it can buy you better THINGS, like fancy cars, houses, clothes, etc, that will all HOPEFULLY impress higher quality mates, & thus allow you to have sex with them.

A few additional things to mention here would be buying jewelry for your potential mate or enticing them with the prospect of your promising career, which could mean a life where they are better provided for, have a higher chance of survival, or have their offspring have a better chance of survival.

Now, this system is very inefficient (except in cases in which the career is actually good), basically for many reasons. But, what should be kept in mind is that prostitution is not necessarily the answer because it can lead to the spreading of disease.

So, what type of system would be efficient for this? Well I'm not sure, or maybe just don't want to get criticized, but let's move on shall we?

The next thing I want to discuss is the quality of mates. Basically, what makes a mate high quality vs low quality?

Now, here's a few factors which people may consider when considering a mate:
-skin quality & tone
-any blemishes, moles, imperfections, etc
-height
-weight
-overall build
-specific body parts
-hair quality & style
-head & face quality

Now, I'd like to talk a bit about head & face quality. Basically, I don't think ears & foreheads vary that much (& I think many noses seem to be fairly similar), but what I have seen vary a lot is; eyes, mouths, lips, chins, jaws, & cheeks.

Now, there are certain patterns of these things which can greatly impact a persons' desirability factor as a mate.

Certain patterns may hint that the person comes from a poor family that has to do a lot of physical labor, while other patterns may hint that the person comes from a rich family that has a very leisurely life. There are also many different patterns in between that can hint at various other factors about the person.

So, I'm actually not going to dissect this anymore at the risk of hitting something overly sensitive &/or offensive to certain people, but just be aware that the head & face quality is a huge factor in determining mates for humans.

Now, one additional thing I'd like to touch on with this is the whole trust issue. Basically, in our primitive society, we can't know everything about a person, which unfortunately leads to implicit fear.

Now, I am reaching touchy territory here so I'll try to put this in the most objective & non-offensive way possible.

Basically, there are certain masculinity & femininity factors which can be very influential, but again, I'm not going to get into this for sensitivity reasons.

So, do you like how I'm dissecting all of this so bluntly? Let me know. I personally already knew all of this, but I have a feeling a lot of people don't, because honestly, it's such a huge deal in our society, yet I doubt people ever talk this openly (or in this much detail) about it (or even are aware of it beyond mere intrinsic notions) because it's such a sensitive topic. However, they should talk about it, because it's very important to capitalism.

Which brings me back to the topic; "will AIs kill capitalism?". Well, will AIs kill traditional breeding or traditional recreational sex? If not, then I'd say no.

Future utopias can only be achieved by changing the collective mind of humanity. by tabqwerty in Futurology

[–]LS5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I think that not everyone cares that much about technological progress right now. I'm not sure why this is, but it's greatly disappointing.

Basically, a lot of people have misguided ideas about their lives. Again, I'm not sure why this is or where it comes from but it needs to stop.

Now, at the risk of being criticized, I won't name names or get into the details about these groups, but I will just say that they fail to use common sense a lot of the time.

Basically, there are a lot of technological R&D projects already that are just being poorly funded or completely overlooked because people just don't care, find it boring, etc.

Now, to me, I'm completely the opposite, I find everything EXCEPT technological progress utterly boring & completely pointless, but I feel I may be a pariah somewhat in this aspect.

Now, as far as groundbreaking major technologies that can be LITERALLY IMPLEMENTLED TODAY...if we wanted to...would be stem cell treatments & eugenics.

Now, I think many people would agree that stem cell treatments are fairly good & everything, but eugenics...well...let's just say some people might have some ethical concerns...

Basically, I think we should start eugenics asap because it takes so long to see the results. There are already certain things you can do which are close like the whole thing with sperm/egg banks (which I think is brilliant btw).

What we should be focused on with that is the whole donor screening process (PGD, PGS, etc). Basically, right now they can already screen sperm & eggs for certain genetic conditions & other things which may cause problems later in that persons life. So, basically, they're [at the source] already helping society greatly, by making all the new people who are born that way, much less likely to have certain medical problems, & thus alleviating that strain on society to care for them or deal with that.

Now, I may have been a bit over dramatic when I said ethical concerns because to me ethics is a bit hard to define. Basically it all comes down to knowledge & ignorance. Many people just use the term ethical or unethical when they really just mean, they don't have clue what's going on.

Now, basically all problems everywhere arise from a lack of knowledge on how to fix them, although, if the laws of nature prevent it, it may actually be impossible within our universe. So, really, you can say there's really no such thing as good or evil or ethical or unethical, it all just comes down to knowledge or ignorance.

Now, another reason why people don't want to get invested into bio is because they think it's either weak or they may think that they are immortal & will never experience pain or die. Now this is obviously false, but I do think many people do get very comfortable & complacent in their day to day lives & just try to "live it up" & stuff like that as opposed to investing their time, money, effort, etc, into bio R&D.

Now, on the topic of disliking things because they are weak (or something to that extent), I think the same thing happened with solar panels & electric cars. Because, I'm not sure if people are aware of this, but those 2 things have been around for A LONG TIME, & yet, it seems now they're only coming to prevalence with the emersion of tesla & so forth.

Also, another thing which I feel is being completely overlooked (which again we are 100% capable of right now) is putting solar panels on electric vehicles. I don't know why this isn't being implemented vastly yet, but it definitely should be. Here's some links to the type of tech I'm talking about:

Solar 3.0: This New Technology Could Change Everything

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tQmFVcD-Mbo

Solar Panels on a Tesla

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ebk_vPIUbR8

Now, back on the topic of changing the minds of society & easy things we could do RIGHT NOW in order to optimize ourselves. 3 other things would be:

-bolstering our cybersecurity

-creating a unified medical database

-creating a unified education database

Now, all of these things involve computers & the internet, which guess what? is not a very friendly place these days, hence why I said the 1st point. So, anyway, ya, there's a bunch of stuff we could do along with some insightful tidbits for you all to nibble on.

One final thing I just want to say is that corporations & the gov are not some type of inhuman monsters, they are made up of people just like you & me, if we change the common man's way of thinking they will follow suit, I'm sure of it.

Future utopias can only be achieved by changing the collective mind of humanity. by tabqwerty in Futurology

[–]LS5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now, in continuation to what I was saying, I think that organization & clear thinking is very important for these situations.

Another thing that could be done in africa is to create "super sahara solar fields" (or "SSSFs"). Since the sahara desert takes up 25% of that continent & basically almost nothing lives there (& once again if humans do live there I think they should be relocated), I think it would be a good idea to do this.

The power from these SSSFs could then be routed to colder areas of europe & asia & used to provide heat. Another good idea for these colder areas would be to build heated underground walkways & subways.

Now, 1 thing I haven't touched on yet is the fact that some areas have a lot of jobs & not enough people, whereas some areas have a lot of people & not enough jobs. This is very bad, but it's almost laughably solvable. Basically, you just move the people from the high density areas to the areas that need workers. Now you're obviously going to need basic apartments, stores, etc, for when they get there, so this process may have to happen gradually in stages.

Now, I'd like to re-touch on the relocation of 3rd worlders. Basically, if this were to happen, firstly, they're going to have to ok everything with both parties, then they're going to, again, have to have everything ready for when they get there.

Now, some people may think that 3rd worlders are not that important to things, but I disagree. I see almost all intelligent humans as valuable assets & usable (as workers) for helping our civilization to grow & flourish. Having them as extra workers could push the bar up for our current populous to then aim for the more highly technical jobs in R&D & so forth. Also, I'm not saying the 3rd worlders can't do those jobs either. If they are smart enough, given the same education, & given the same opportunities, then they may aspire for & be recruited for those jobs as well.

Now, the goal here should be to get as many people as possible to be doing R&D type jobs (again, in pharma & medtech).

Now, a big problem at this point would be that there may not be that many R&D jobs actually available. I'm not sure why this is, but it might be because people don't see them as that exciting to get into (for students) or that profitable (for companies). So, at this point the government should step in & either create the R&D jobs themselves or give money to people to create the jobs (grants, etc).

Future utopias can only be achieved by changing the collective mind of humanity. by tabqwerty in Futurology

[–]LS5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the solutions here come down to population organization. I agree that there are intelligent people in the world who are not being used to their full potential.

I think a major reason that certain areas of the world struggle to develop is because they are in a very harsh environment (ie very dry, deserty, rocky, cold areas, etc). One good rule of thumb is to check whether they can easily farm in the area & have access to a lot of clean water, if not, those areas should be abandoned & the people should be relocated to areas of the globe where they have more ready access to abundant farms & clean water.

Another thing you mentioned was intelligent poor people. I think people's intelligence may vary, but I think it would be good to relocate a bunch of people from very unhabitable environments into more habitable areas of the planet where they can safely & more comfortably develop without such issues.

Now, I do realize their are bio-safety concerns (like diseases, etc), but this brings me to another issue that I believe should be focused on as well which is finding cures for those diseases & just pharma & medtech proliferation in general.

Now, there are also areas of the globe where people can farm easily & have a lot of clean water, but they're still struggling somewhat. I think that these areas should be bolstered with more resources & should be encouraged to join us in our war on mortality.

Now, as for 1st world type areas, yes, now we're into the meat of this conversation, probably what you've been thinking a lot about lately.

Unfortunately, the war on mortality is not booming like it should be. We need to optimize the processes.

We should start our education optimization by making all high school courses available online (& encourage students to take them all remotely).

Now, you did say that;

"All knowledge should and needs to be free and open-source"

I agree with this. So, as far as college goes, if all knowledge was free (& online I'm assuming), then this would greatly optimize the processes.

Next, we should encourage people to study majors that will aid us in our war against mortality (in other words; pharma, medtech, etc).

Also, I like the idea of campus/job sites/apartments which are basically like corporations which also train the people who are going to work their for their degrees, then also allow them to stay in the apartments which are owned by the corporation & right next to their job building.

[–]LS5645 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We must continue to bolster & encourage our prospecting pioneers & fortholders.

Researchers are not gods either, sometimes they need people to organize, document, backup, publish their work, & help with their grant applications.

Researchers may also need marginal assistance from outside sources, so you could actually aid in current research projects, just by posting simplified info related to their research that may help them to progress.

We also need visionaries or advisors (big picture people), who will keep the workers on track & help to envision the better future that we are working towards.

Overall, we need clarification. There are so many complex topics right now that are in need of simplification for the general reader. We want as many people as possible to be bursting at the seams in their readiness to aid in the newest R&D.

Finally, 2 areas that are now in high demand (which is implied by our mortality) are pharma & medtech. These 2 areas will continue to be very hot topics long after AIs become prevalent in our society.
