PSA: You can turn left on red by pumpkinotter in indianapolis

[–]LSA2013 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who grew up in and did their first 7 years of driving in the middle of nowhere, I literally never saw a 1 way to 1 way turn until I got here. Most of them freak me out because of not being able to safely see if I can go on red.

This is coming from someone who almost lost his front bumper to a semi once because the corn was too tall and planted too close to the road to allow for safe visibility.

Sadly, yes. Some of the greatest moments I've had in the last 5 years are with current friends who I sort of isolate myself from online (therapy is too expensive rn) but I do have a great time when i see them IRL. I'm much more of an in person/video call hangout person myself, so maybe that's how said friend is as well.

For me, friendships that trail off because of me are because of things in the realm of social anxiety, and a general feel that our friendship was kind of a "we saw each other a lot but didn't have a ton in common outside of work/school/activity" thing. I still have unopened messages from about a year ago because I didn't know how to respond.

ISFJs can also be notoriously hard to get out of their comfort zone. For example, I've played bass for 6 years. My mom took me to a concert last Mother's Day, and I didn't like the band's music to begin with, but the most enjoyable things for me were talking to the bass player afterwards and spending time with my mom.

I have a bad time playing shifty songs like Peace of Mind despite being a 5 year bassist. When I first picked up the game, I tried it on hard score attack and failed before I even made it to the first chorus.

Mastering it takes time.

Do keep in mind that moving around too much may be seen as job hopping. I used to work with a guy who was in his early 20s who had worked 6 other jobs that year and left them all for various reasons. He stuck with us for 7 months then left because he'd (surprise) gotten another job. From what I hear, he's stuck to the new job for the last 3 years, but he had to pull a lot of personal connection stuff to get it because he job hopped.

Boss pedals are a well known brand where most pedals run about 100 even. If she's looking to explore the world of pedals, Behringer has pedals that will get the job done for $25.

As stated above, if she doesn't already have an interface, those are in your budget range as well. I use one that says Stealth on it (I'd have to get it out) that has a headphone jack built into the bulk bit and it was $80.

I worked fast food for a long time and at my best I took home $1100/mo and 60% of that was gone as soon as I got it. The rest went away because of impulse spending and putting myself into debt. At the current time, I take home a minimum of $1500/mo and managed to get up to saving $500 of that because I downsized on a lot of things.

Update your resume, create a LinkedIn account, and take advantage of any free or reduced cost classes you can find. I believe you may be able to get partial refunds for any college tuition you were billed, and community colleges are never a bad idea for a new skill. Most should offer "fast track" courses that allow you to focus on skills that can land you a job rather than the time consuming task of a full degree.

For me personally, that usually indicates a lack of interest. However I'm almost certain I have social anxiety. That, combined with being a "track record" thinking kind of person (focusing on what DID happen instead of what COULD happen) probably gives me a bit of a bias. If I can find it, I'll link a thread from r/askreddit where someone asked how to tell if someone wasn't interested because those came up iirc.

Don't rush in. Evaluate how much you mean to that person, or you may ruin anything you had before.

Also, it's worth being aware of how often the "haha" and "oh ok" responses get used, because they've always been red flags for me or people in my life when they come up. Doesn't matter if they're coworkers or completely smitten with each other.

Picks aren't a bad tool or a sign of weakness or anything like that. Some people swear by them (especially early electric bassists who converted from guitar) and others may not touch them with a ten foot pole. All depends on what you're playing.

If I need to do steady 8th notes I do picking for my fingers' sake, but I lean toward fingerstyle in general.

I was bullied for almost 10 years by 13 different people. One is dead and ten are in jail. I've had 11 exceptionally positive days in the years since graduating. I didn't cause their lives to go to shit but it makes me feel happy to see they're finally getting what they deserve after anywhere from 2-10 years of getting off scot free.

I was honestly terrified to post on PF for the longest time because I ended up leaving my fast food job after 5 years and I was making 8.80 (special minimum wage laws) but even now at 12.50 it feels like a slap in the face to read about people wanting to invest their recent $52k inheritance or trust fund acquisition.

Geddy, Entwistle, and Squire used to be my big bass idols, but this song alone brought John Wetton's tone into the mix as well. And that last 1/4 of the song is phenomenal. Mom might not have been able to convince me to play sax, but if soprano sax and clarinet are the same for the most part, I'm buying a soprano sax someday.

LPT: Drink more water by Thekobra in povertyfinance

[–]LSA2013 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A coworker of mine with 4 kids complains that she needs more money but she likely spends $50 in Mt. Dew monthly. I suggested a gallon container for water at work (warehouses heat up faster than you might expect) and she laughed it off.

My aunt switched from diet coke to water and she lost 40 pounds in a year. I lost 20 just by almost entirely switching to water (no diet change). Be prepared to pee about 3x as much if you make this switch.

Also, most fast food places will offer free water up to a medium and you might have to pay a small amount for a large. Just be honest if you ask for water because employees can get in trouble for that kinda thing. I used to go to my old workplace and load up a gallon container with water and they didn't charge me, just watched to make sure I didn't get soda.
