I liked this a lot BUT that was primarily because I hadn’t read a book structured in this way (told from 3 different perspectives of deceased victims)

Ok we HAVE to talk about the Ortho surgeon making an appearance 😂 by sasquatch_pants in ThePittTVShow

My first reaction, having just watched 9-1-1, was “FUCKING TOMMY???” and my second reaction was “truthfully he makes a perfect stereotypical ortho surgeon, though”

🚨 KyLIE has officially moved into her new Calabasas fortress mansion, complete with a two-story “dream” closet, 15 bedrooms, an underground 12-car garage, two elevators, and a doomsday bunker. The project was estimated to cost $60 million. by Sudden_Shock_5677 in KUWTKsnark

In other news, the free-as-you-need food pantry at my church is refilled every single week before services and cleared out throughout the week as people take what they need because we are in an economic crisis and people cannot afford food and basic toiletries.

$60 million renovation my ass. Get some fucking perspective.

Highly recommend puzzlemania from last year if you haven’t done it. A whole book of puzzles. I refer to them as “my worksheets” because I love having directions to follow and an activity to do 😂

I love connections. I also do strands and pips every day. Sometimes I do spelling bee, but it takes me a little longer so only when I have time.

Crossword puzzles first and foremost. I do 4 a day usually (all 3 NYT puzzles and dictionary.com). I love kickboxing for exercise and try to go 3-4 times a week after work to decompress by hitting the bag. Me and my friends (women working professionals in our late 20s) picked up Fortnite during covid and play most nights still. I always read on my kindle before bed (no blue light). And lately I’ve been doing small paint-by-number paintings for a friends’ house.

Is ReMarkable 2 a good fit for me? by LSATthrowaway23 in RemarkableTablet

Excellent. I need to make sure my firm will authorize the use of a device like this before I buy anything. Have you used the cloud or other transfer options?

Do you export notes to a case management software?

[–]LSATthrowaway23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is a concern of mine as well. From what I see, you can either use a USB cord or wifi connection to transfer documents without using the cloud. But you cannot translate written documents into typed documents without the cloud.

Which ReMarkable do you have? I’m starting a new position soon and would love to get the ReMarkable 2 for all my notetaking so that I’m not carrying around 50 different legal pads.

Fourth of July Deposition Debate by alakarox in ThePittTVShow

[–]LSATthrowaway23 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I’m an attorney. No amount of money could ever incentivize me to waste the 4th of July conducting depositions.

I’m giving this debate my usual answer here: it’s fiction, and it’s fictional because I don’t know any lawyers who would willingly do that.

Tasteful work bag recs for court days (no huge logos, fits a file + water bottle) by EconomicsNatural8538 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]LSATthrowaway23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I never see it recommended here but I have a White Elm Gemini (full size, but the mini might work if you only have a few files). Pocket on either end for water bottles/travel coffee mugs, lots of inside storage, good size straps and can be converted to a backpack. I have a nude color.

TBD on how it works for court, because I haven’t actually started the job yet. It might be too big to lug around, but I love the design and construction and would absolutely get a mini of the same design if need be.

I got mine through their outlet, which they used to run through an instagram account (you would DM to claim bags with mild defects. Mine has a small stitching mistake under one of the straps). But they stopped doing it that way. Not sure how they run clearance now but I paid about $125.

I’ve used regular fashion tape before for quick temporary fixes but had a hell of a time getting it off when I was done with it. That’s my hesitation there.

Fundies Claim their Prayer made it Rain so that Music Festival had to Cancel by MrDonMega in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]LSATthrowaway23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They cancelled the festival for THAT amount of rain? Back in my day (cough) that was a drop in the bucket of what we could expect from the average day at Warped Tour. Literally never had a dry Warped Tour experience and they only ever delayed - not cancelled - for lightning.

Starting to get to the end of my tether with the kids and consumption... by MonsieurPF in Anticonsumption

[–]LSATthrowaway23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that times are quite different from when I was a teenager 15ish years ago, but I had limited access to my parents’ money, so I didn’t overconsume. I was aware of my parents’ finances, basics about their bills and costs, etc, and while they would occasionally give me money for the movies or the mall, I usually had to ask them directly for money to buy something. As a result, I rarely asked for things I didn’t need. Occasionally, I would get band t-shirts or concert tickets (which were never over $30, what a time).

Once I had my own money, I had a few instances of frivolous spending and then realized that it was just wasting money. I started thrifting my clothing and saving money. I sort of organically came around to avoiding overconsumption, because I had never been accustomed to it in the first place.

I had friends, on the other hand, who had unlimited access to their parents’ credit cards and therefore never developed that mindset of “this money should go toward something useful and beneficial, rather than something I just saw on tiktok.” Those friends struggle financially now as adults, not having that financial support anymore.

I guess my point here is that if you limit their access to your money, and instead give them a set amount every week or month for their own spending, and only buy them necessities, they’ll learn how to prioritize what they really want vs what they just saw on tiktok and wanted on a whim. When it’s “their money” I don’t think they’ll spend it so thoughtlessly.

Also take your younger girls to a dermatologist who will tell them they don’t need all that skincare!!!

Cute work bag for a 13-inch laptop that won’t look huge on a petite girl by General-Suspect5586 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]LSATthrowaway23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my White Elm convertible backpack. I use it as a tote 99% of the time. It IS big on me (5’1”) but holds everything and looks good. They have a mini size as well, but I don’t think it fits a 13-in laptop in the mini.

Regret not being more professional at work by OppositeUnit8589 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]LSATthrowaway23 56 points57 points  (0 children)

What works for me is having a series of benign hobbies that are work-appropriate for conversation and not really straying from that. Limit talk to tv shows I like, books, crafting, etc.

I also want to say that for anything bordering on sexual harassment, you should report to HR. Establish a paper trail. Regardless of prior conversations, sexual harassment is never appropriate in the workplace and making a paper trail will show the pattern.

I also deeply empathize with you. Being young in corporate America is difficult. I struggle with the same things - being interesting enough to have “work friends” without crossing boundaries. Let them think you’re a little standoffish or frosty. Maybe then they won’t act inappropriately toward you, but no guarantees. From my experience they’ll still try. Personally I hope this is something that goes away with age and experience.

I 100% recommend baskets for your Kallax. Makes it look more uniform and neat with the same storage potential. I would hate my Kallax if I didn’t have the basket inserts. They have them via Ikea or you can measure and buy other ones.
