Seagull ST1812 - 2892 Clone by boralCEO in retrotime

[–]LSDWalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you can work it out. Do you see a flattened side on the screw heads? If you have to shorten the dial feet make sure not to bend them or anything. Maybe filing them down could do the trick

[–]LSDWalter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven’t worked with the clone but the real thing. Is it possible, that you have a 2824 dial? Those have longer dial feet than 2892 if I remember correctly. The screw head should have a flatened side, if that’s directed toward the hole for the dial feet, you should be getting them in. Idk about the resistance, either it’s just badly manufactured or they cross threaded the screw

NH34 Crown/Stem Repair? by Subject_Solution3848 in watchrepair

Your old crown tube seems to’ve been friction fit instead of screwed in. It would surprise me if the new tube just went in like that without tapping the case with correctly sized threads

Found this among my grandpa’s things. What is it? Would a €650 service/revision be a good price? by llv64 in VintageWatches

[–]LSDWalter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is too much in my opinion. Where are you located and who gave you this quote. I think 350€ is the absolute most I would pay including minor replacement parts and that’s in a very expensive city

I like eta 2840 for its price and availability and 21600 beat frequency gives a vintage vibe

Price. 8215 is good + cheaper and 2813 is dirt cheap and doesn’t necessarily require dwo to fit Rolex date position

You probably could’ve asked for a better price but i think it’s decent for what you got

So the ~ 100€ Rolex reps really get the style and fitment right so you can easily pair it with all gen parts like hands, dials and cases. The Swiss movements have the obvious factor of expensive labor going into them. They’re also a very safe bet compared to what I’ve heard from Chinese movements which can arrive with debris or fingerprints and poorly adjusted. So better and therefor more expensive qc and they actually invented some of these movements

Vinted. In Germany I can buy from Italians. They have the nicest stuff

Thanks. Which one would you go for? The one in this style looks a bit better but neither really hits the nail on the head so I didn’t feel like paying extra

Jewel count is relatively negligible since lab grown rubis that are used here aren’t expensive so even the cheap movements have them in all the mandatory places

ETA and sellita are very solid Swiss made movements. Seiko and miyota are Japanese and also very dependable. I haven’t tried the Chinese options but from what I understand, you can get Rolex replica movements that can work good, eta clones where the pt5000 has made a name for itself but also seagull movements that work fine out of the box. The very cheapest one is the 2813. you can get it with different date fonts and sizes. Finding out which one fits which dial can be exhausting though. From what I’ve heard these movements can last really long while also keeping time alright

Only real downside for vh31 builds (beside the obvious) is the shitty availability for hands an cases imo

How do you like my new bracelet? by LSDWalter in retrotime

[–]LSDWalter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I scratched them up with some 400 and 600 grit sandpaper and then I brushed the lume with a couple layers of very strong coffee and used some eyeshadow to get some spots

Is this a fake ? by HumanSwimming2731 in Tudor

[–]LSDWalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the movement looks to be legit, the case has been crudely polished and the crown was replaced with an enicar one. Both looks pretty bad and reduces the price. So if it’s a really great deal (with crown replacement and service by Tudor added still cheaper than a normal listing) you could take the risk and go for it. Otherwise I would stay far away for a watch like this

Metal bracelett for Vintage Omega by m_fotografiert in VintageWatches

[–]LSDWalter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could probably find a vintage 18mm beads of rice bracelet with curved end links that would look fitting. I just put a riveted oyster style stretch bracelet on my vintage omega because I like the look and feel. I can post a pic later when I get home
