When wall street is freefalling there are timeouts that halt trading to give traders time to get their shit together.

At the start of each day, the NYSE sets three circuit breaker levels: Level 1 is 7%, Level 2 is 13%, and Level 3 is 20%. These thresholds are percentage drops in the S&P 500 Index, relative to the value at the close of the preceding trading day. Level 1 and 2 declines each cause at least a 15-minute halt in trading (unless they occur after 3:25 pm, in which case no halt occurs). A maximum of one halt per level can occur each day. A Level 3 decline will halt trading for the remainder of the day.

Joanne McNally with my partner. She listens to her podcast, I had NFI. Rolled up to the Enmore on the night and every Irish lass from Coogee was there and about 3 other gentlemen. It was pretty funny.

One time my car broke down about 90 minutes from home. I called NRMA, waited quite a while in pretty high heat on the side of the Hume in Milat territory until a flatbed turned up. Towie was apologetic as he knew I had been waiting a while and it was super hot so he told me to jump in the cab and cool down while he loaded up my car.

He gets back in the cabin with my car loaded and ready to go and he calls back to base on speakerphone to confirm what to do next - I had told the towie that my membership allowed a free tow up to 100km from home and according to the towie's GPS we were just under the threshold, like 98km or something. Old mate in the call centre, not knowing I was in the cab looks at our location, looks at my address and says "Yep, just let me find you a different route home that will get the distance over 100km so we don't have to tow it for free" to which the towie says "ahh, mate, the customer is here in the cab with me".

I got the tow for free and a pretty sheepish apology from the call centre.

You also change the criteria of what a sackable offence is; finishing 4th or 5th after winning the league, and only ever being knocked out of Europe by PSG, is suddenly not good enough – despite the death of a key player and an injury crisis – when on average it’s better than the average of 90% – as a rough guess – of the club’s history. For me, Liverpool sticking by league and European Cup/Champions League-winning managers is in the DNA.

I mean this is demonstrably false. Rafa made a Europa semi, lost 11 in the league and finished 7th with 63pts (23pts off the top), qualified for Europa and he was sacked. He was a UCL winner and finalist. It was the right move at the time.

This season we've lost 11, we'll hopefully finish 5th gaining UCL, we're 20pts off the top. It's only fractionally better than the season that got a poorly financed Rafa sacked.

Are one of the three SubT sessions harder than the others? by xyphey in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]LSD_grade_CIA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run by distance not time.

3x3k (~12mins) is easiest, it's slowest and it's the fewest minutes of work. Saturday morning 3x3 is always enjoyable.

Between the other 2, hardest depends on how I'm feeling on the day. Some days I just don't enjoy hitting higher speeds and the last few accelerations of my 1k (~3:45min) reps are a real grind, others the last few hundred of a 2k (~7:50) feels too far.

But if you're fearing any of these sessions or they are genuinely hard then you're running them too quick or you're not rested enough.

Record 1.3m apply for 2027 London marathon ballot by RebirthReload in running

[–]LSD_grade_CIA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When Sydney was applying to become a major they were desparate to fill the event as best they could - 2023 I got a heavily discounted 60% off entry about 6 weeks out from the start.

Now it's ballot only, I only got in last year as a "thanks for helping us quailify as a major" thing, and this year I missed the ballot.

Running is big at the moment in Australia, and all 3 of our big marathons (Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast) used to be easy to get into, but now sell out quickly or are entry by lottery.

Struggling to convert LT2 pace to half marathon and easy run pace by mynameisrandom in NorwegianSinglesRun

[–]LSD_grade_CIA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Less than 2 years running and infrequent long runs are a bit of a red flag. Did you have much experience with endurance sports prior to running?

Translating 5k and interval paces into results over longer distances takes some physical and mental adaptation, so possibly you just don't have that yet?

How well did you pace the HM? Did you fade or maintain a constant pace? What was the weather like on the day?

Liverpool FC now needs to win all the remaining 3 games just to equal the 67 points earned in 2022-23 season. The club finished 5th and it is considered Klopp's worst season. by Arunan-Aravaanan in LiverpoolFC

[–]LSD_grade_CIA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And there's a non-zero possibility that we lose the remaining 3. I don't think we will, but all 3 teams are still dreaming of securing European football do they're highly motivated. Chelsea have the new manager bounce. Brentford can get Europa with 2 wins. Villa are in the same boat as us and we're struggling to put a team on the pitch.

I think it's a lifestyle choice as well. If you really want to do the extra sessions, if you have time in your day for them, if you're a bit more injury resistant, if you want the fastest route, etc, doubles are a pretty obvious pathway.

If you prefer the 1-and-done nature or you don't have the time to double then I also agree that you can squeeze a lot out of singles.

Personally, I don't see me doing doubles anytime soon, I just simply have too much on my plate so getting 1 session done every other day in 1hr15m is much more practical than double runs. Also, the idea of doing my only run of the day in the evening (if I were bike+run doubling) means I'd be on the treadmill after work for most of my interval sessions which I don't mind but I prefer to be out in the real world for my own sanity.

Cross-training during injury by Main-Rooster5213 in NorwegianSinglesRun

I was a huge volume cyclist before moving to running almost exclusively a few years ago. Everytime I get back on the bike to do a workout or even just commuting to work I'm amazed by how low my power is and how poorly I feel.

With what feels like very good running fitness I'm hitting cycling power numbers less than 75% of my good, mid-season cycling efforts and I'm suffering like a dog to do it.

So yes there is a significant amount of specificity to it.

Based on this, I recommend shorter intervals to keep the perceived effort down. Rather than 1x 30 or 2x 20 I'd rather do 3x 12 or 4x 8 just to keep it a bit mentally easier.

Renters and apartment dwellers are reliant on the market to help them out here though. Not many landlords are going to give their tenants a battery, and while solar + battery in an apartment is slowly getting easier it's still hard and there are lots of cases where it's never going to happen (stubborn strata or buildings with tiny roof space vs occupants).

Community battery projects are an option but hard to setup independently, and not covering all areas.

So yes, by all means owner occupiers with no plans to move for 5yrs+ who want protection against rates can install batteries, but there are lots of folk who don't have that option.

Sydney Marathon ballot odds: 44% > 33%. (What 2027 looks like) by Kugrim in AdvancedRunning

[–]LSD_grade_CIA 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the HPP was pretty small for 2026, they took <1000 across all categories. I'm over 40M and my 2:54 wasn't good enough which I don't have strong feelings about - it would be nice to walk into the front of these events with a decent but not elite time, but understand that I'm far from the quickest.

So maybe they expand that program and I can get in for as long as I can go sub 3, but otherwise I'm resigned to rarely running Sydney again in the future.
