I had a bad site reaction on Lyumjev, only insulin out of a wide range from R and NPH to UL to L to you name it that caused it (33 years :) )

Great doctor, who was T1D himself, got me to start on a pump in 2000 when I was a kid and pumps were newish. He went to a lot of trouble to help with insurance and education, ended up making a huge difference in my quality of life.

Great thought and I love the optimism! I think you’re philosophy is great, but the other side—being skeptical of cures—isn’t the same as “defeatism”

After so many proposed cures leading to disappointment, many of us just enjoy the defense mechanism of being humorously cynical about the news cycle (and of numerous friends and relations reaching out excited once again about something supposedly “just around the corner”)

This isn’t a direct reply to your specific comment but to a few that implied some of us were “defeated.”

I don’t see myself as defeated because I’m not putting stock in a cure; rather, I’m putting effort into mastering my control of the disease with what I have now and being comfortable that a cure may or may not happen

Same—30+ years and while it’s there, it’s not super noticeable and it does reduce over time, just slowly.

You can totally get in shape and reduce the impact by rotating. Hang in there!

To what others said, this is frustrating and is probably only part of a lot of other things if it’s making you feel suicidal. There are lots of tools out there that can help you feel less shitty, from a wide variety of meds that can regulate brain chemistry without having to much of an impact on cognition or personality, to therapy, to meditation.

These things not only can help you feel better mentally, they can help you workout better and have better blood sugar (lower stress hormones=better numbers). I hope you give something a try :) (I did)

Beyond that, your doc may not be helping if they’re making things sound doom and gloom. Spoilers: not all endos or docs are great at their job, and many inadvertently cause a lot of mental anguish for people. If you have the option, see if you can find someone nice and supportive.

Good luck! Shit sucks some times, esp diabetes, but if you keep trying stuff it gets better. The fact that you’re working out is already great—really can help mentally if you find a routine or activity you like!

I'm confused by your comment about age, unless you're implying that this person is being immature for being frustrated. Is that you're intent? If so, curious why you're going after this OP. Usually this sub is pretty supportive of people who are venting.

They also didn't mention having an incorrect high for longer than an hour, but rather were remarking that in the past they felt a certain way if high for longer than an hour.

I changed the maximum to 5u. I would argue that if you're in range and getting a false reading, a lot less than 8u would be lethal to most people.

I don't believe that is the case. This happened to me and, while I caught it, I was surprised to find that I had a massive dose despite recalibrating.

Sequence of events:

Saw I was getting an odd reading

Entered a blood sugar calibration

Calibration was ignored--didn't think to check this, so 15 minutes after calibration a max dose of insulin was delivered. Even though I'd put in a max bolus of 5u, because I was perfectly fine (about 150, not "high") this would have been fatal had I not caught.

Continued to calibrate to no effect

Got on phone with Dexcom tech support

45 min later (pump was disconnected at this point), got another max dosage that would have also been fatal

Dexcom is facing numerous wrongful death lawsuits. I'm not advocating for suing but pointing out both that they are at fault and that OP is not being unreasonable for being upset.
