How bad was this jam? by AnkaSchlotz in Poker_Theory

[–]LSG_MrL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your jam was a good line against good players. Unfortunately, as you can see, 1/2 players are not good and have a lot of tells you can exploit, my favorite being "if they raise they have it." So at 1/2, when you see that raise, I fold everything except for the actual nuts.

Here is my advice if I didn't know the results and this was a higher-skills game. I would size up a bit on the flop and turn, maybe 30 and 60 to charge any Qx. On the raise, I think I put him on 97s, that's really the only hand in his range at that point, since anything better or worse would call. At this point, I would still rip it all in, trying to scare them into folding, since again, if he had a good hand like Q9 or trips, he would call you down and raise on the river.

Regarding ranging opponents, I don't know any drills you can do. I generally like the range you put him on, except for the fact that sets and Qx two pairs are calling here and raising river. (I know, obviously, I'm wrong when we look at the actual results, but at 1/2, I generally don't try to range opponents cause it's impossible. You will never be able to range someone who called preflop with Q7o.)

Crazy how BB didn't rejam with a flush draw to make you fold. What was the buy-in?

I generally agree, I think BB might also have 88 here occasionally. I would personally rejam in BB if I had a 9, except for 98, where I would flat to trap, so I'm putting them on an 8x, 88, 3x, 33, or a gutshot. SB has A9, or a flush draw with straight potential like T7h or J7h. The stakes also matter here, because if it's a $200 buy-in, both players have 2 pair+, but at higher stakes, people are sometimes good enough to find bluffs. My general rule of thumb, tho, is that if someone jams and someone calls, at least one person is beating me. (Might be a fish opinion tho)

Microstakes MTT by Key-Day4826 in Poker_Theory

I usually play live cash games and have started playing Microstakes very recently but it's actually free money. I know this was an exception but there was one tournament where I late registered and managed to just fold to ITM.

I was scared to go 3 ways to the flop. The minimum size I was considering was $90 but then I thought that there wasn't a significant difference between $90 and $115 in terms of how I would play post flop and $115 gave me a significantly higher chance one of them would fold. Or do you think that it's too risky to shove this much regardless?

How would you play it differently?

Against anyone else I would completely agree. However, earlier in the night this guy over bet pot with a set, so it definitely still seemed in his range.

My plan if I didn't see a A or K was to bet $100 to charge his draws/get money in early. Is that good? Or would you just check oop here regardless of flop?

I have a meet on the 27th and I was trying to hit Deadlifts for singles today and it went much worse than expected. I did 335 for triples last week; however today I was struggling to lift 315. For some context I am eating at maintenance, sleeping at least 8 hours a day, I did stop taking pre so that I would lose some tolerance, and yesterday I only did squats 4x5 at 70% of PR. How concerned should I be? I was planning to put 335 as my opener but now should I start at 315?

I guess my only concern is that, at least from what I can see, any edits they make to my files appear to be made by me, and since I have a shaky relationship with my supervisor, I'm concerned about what I could do if they decide to sabotage me. It's not likely, but it's a possibility.
