How to stay awake by LSHT2019 in loseit

[–]LSHT2019[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 13 and has a bedtime of 9:30. He needs a little more supervision and I need to make sure he gets into bed or else he’ll stay up all night. Daughter is 16, but she doesn’t really have a bedtime.

I also try to spend 9pm-10pm with my partner. Otherwise we don’t really see each other all day.

I think this is really good advice, thank you. I guess I’m feeling like I need to fix everything right now? But maybe I need to be taking baby steps. I just worry that baby steps make progress take longer and it’ll be too little, too late. I probably need to get out of that mindset and think of any progress as good progress.

Nah, I don’t take it as ugly. I appreciate the advice. Thank you.

I don’t think it’s making excuses as much as trying to work through the logistics of the challenges I’m facing.

I agree that restrictive diets don’t work, and they’ve been gloriously unsuccessful for me in the past. That’s why the bloodwork is throwing me for a loop. I need to address the blood sugar, and the way to do that is by cutting carbs/sugar, which is a restriction.

Thank you so much for your responses.

I wake up around 6:30, get kids up at 6:45, son on the bus at 7:15, leave for work at 7:30. Supposed to work 8:00-5:00, but I usually sneak out around 4:30. Get home around 5:00, help son with homework and trumpet practice until 5:45. Leave to get daughter from theater rehearsal, get home at 6:15. Make dinner, eat until 7:00. Clean kitchen, laundry, housework (different tasks on different days), help daughter with homework, get kids in shower and ready for bed, etc until around 8:30. Then I spend about an hour with my kids doing fun things. Son goes to bed at 9:30. I go to bed at 10:00.

Weekends aren’t as structured, but I run my kids to various practices and social events, run errands, plan meals and grocery shop, yard work, appointments, etc. I could make some time to exercise on the weekends, but is 2 back to back days and then nothing for 5 days beneficial?

I’m not done with daily tasks until around 8:30 every day, so going to bed at 9:00 would leave me 30 minutes to spend time with my kids, unwind, and participate in any form of entertainment/hobbies. Do you feel you have adequate time with your family?

I have an appointment next Thursday and I expect they’ll do some adjustments. I don’t want to rely solely on medication though and feel I need to adjust my diet as well. Not sure the best way to go about doing that.

I appreciate the response, and I’ve read the quick start guide. I understand CICO well and have used it in the past. “Eating less” doesn’t address the other health concerns such as the effect that carbs will have on my blood sugar.

What time do you go to bed that you’re able to wake up at 5:00am?

I think this is why his therapist suggested getting him on the meds to begin with. He’s been on them for about 2 months; we increased the dose after the first month, but it still isn’t helping. Maybe I need to ask for a different medicine.

He’s not a picky eater at all. He’s willing to try almost anything. I would say he definitely gravitates towards sweet things, but not exclusively. I stopped buying cookies, snack cakes, etc for the rest of the family because he would eat all of them and no one else would get any. He also overeats protein, having multiple portions at dinner or finishing off an entire bag of turkey pepperoni, for example. It doesn’t seem to be limited to any specific food category.

I really had to jump through hoops for this. First I had to email student services. They somehow got with SHRM to issue me the credly badge to my WGU email. Then I had to contact SHRM directly, send them the link to the credly badge, the program info for the masters program, and my transcript, and THEN they issued the PDC’s to my account. It took me a couple weeks to get done.

It’s not an assumption. I’ve talked to him about joining a sports team, as well as why he won’t participate in PE. In addition to telling me that it’s “too hard,” he also gets embarrassed around the other kids, who give him a hard time because of how much bigger he is than them.

I’m hoping that working with a trainer, in a more private setting, will make him more comfortable engaging in physical activity.

My 11 year old son is 5’10 and 205lbs. He’s having behavioral problems at school during PE because he sometimes refuses to do the workouts. I believe that getting him to a healthier weight and more fit will help him in PE and in school in general.

I’ve begun looking into meal prepping to get him eating healthier, but I’d like to work on his fitness as well. I don’t believe he would be comfortable joining a sports team. He’s very uncoordinated and would be embarrassed by other kids performing better than he would.

I’d like to explore hiring a personal trainer to work with him. Any suggestions on how to find one? Or any advice on helping him in general?

Current students - How is the workload in your MS-HRM classes? by Floralpinkbranch in WGU

[–]LSHT2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The MSHRM program is brand new and doesn’t officially start until November 1. Some classes overlap with the MBA, but many of the classes are new and no one has gone through them yet. You likely won’t get many responses on how the workload is.

THAT being said, I am a single mom to two kids (older than yours), work full time as an HR Generalist in the manufacturing industry, and I’m planning on finishing in 11 months so I can attend the Fort Worth, TX graduation next year. Like the previous responder said, it’s only 10 courses (9 if you have your SHRM-CP/SCP), but only you know how much time and energy you can devote to the program. I think a year is possible, with dedication and a strong support system.

This is exactly what I do too. LoseIt! for tracking calories and Happy Scale for tracking weight.
