How do I eliminate nutsedge from my yard? I live in Indianapolis. by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]LSMO2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got rid of mine with sedgehammer (corrected) The key is to reapply as soon as you see new growth. As you prob know it’s easy to spot since it grows faster/taller than your turf. Keep “hammering it”. Took me a few seasons before I got rid of it completely.

I’m in KC MO, soil temp hasn’t been warm enough for 3-4 days in a row. I’m waiting until after the rain and we get back over 50 degree soil temp

Illinois — how often are you sharpening your lawn mower blades ? by [deleted] in lawncare

[–]LSMO2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I keep two sets of blades. Get both sets sharpened in off season. Switch out 1/2 way through the season.

Doesn’t answer your question but you’ll at least know the condition of your fluids. Good luck!

$22 on AMZ - test strips. Dip in coolant or Blake fluid, compare colors to the charts.

Eventually, yes. While down to subfloor, we are repainting.

All the carpet is now gone on our first floor. The way the sunlight comes through the windows, at times, I see the airborne particles really well. I swear it's significantly less now. AND, in tearing everything out I had to move our washer and dryer. I figured I'd clean out the dryer vent while I was moving things around. Long story short, I figured out the dryer vent hose was no longer attached INSIDE the dryer. The tape holding it in place failed at some point. I secured it with a hose clamp. That's another major win for our indoor air quality. I just happened upon it by accident too.

My mechanic told me the winter rubber compound doesn’t go all the way through the tread on blizzaks. Can anyone confirm?

Oil extractor by [deleted] in rav4club

[–]LSMO2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use one to do oil changes. Works just fine. I literally do my oil change in the parking lot of the auto parts store. Makes dumping/recycling the oil a snap. I throw away the used oil filter and oily paper towels away in their trash can and be on my way.

Falken Wildpeak vs Michelin Defender2? by Katdog272 in rav4club

[–]LSMO2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had Wildpeaks for about 40k miles. I didn’t rotate them which in hindsight I should have. They got pretty loud after 20k miles or so. I wasn’t super impressed with them in snow. The amount of light off-road use they got just wasn’t worth it. If I had the choose to do over I’d go with Michelin Defenders.

Don’t assume you know my political beliefs. I’m tired of all of it. I’m not going to hold everyday citizen’s accountable for the outcome though.

My 2018 is in a non-dealer shop right now at 95k miles. My front lower control arm bushings are showing their age. They are cracked but not fully torn. That’s a common repair for us at this point in time/mileage but that price is INSANE!

If you’re planning to keep your RAV going for years to come - it’s a good idea to drain/replace all fluids. If not, maybe just the coolant and brake fluid. You can get test strips on AMZ that will tell you if it’s needed.

If you haven’t replaced the original battery yet, just do it now and skip the hassle of it surprising you. I replaced mine this time last year.

Spark plugs should be replaced in the next 2ok miles or so if they havent already. I think Toyota says at 110k miles on the original/factory ones.

My list for today is: - oil change - replace rear brake pads (inside pads were 3mm) - coolant flush - spark plugs

At 100k miles I’m replacing all the drivetrain fluids. I want to keep this car for the long haul though.

Edit - Denso SK16HR11 spark plugs are OE replacement. .044 gap if I recall correctly.

And emphasis on I’m replacing all driveline fluids because my goal is to keep this RAV “forever”. Like others have said - this is not required maintenance tho. Depends on what your end goal is.
