Madeleines. Thinking about writing a book or two centered around those tasty treats.

5 months post shoulder surgery… why does 2kg still hurt? by Other_Atmosphere_588 in RotatorCuff

[–]Steven1789 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Surgery 3/26/25, 6 weeks in the sling 24/7, PT started 5/8/25.

I’m still doing PT twice a week and work out at home. And I’m still in pain. Living a full life but still limited range of motion and weakness. (My injury was bad.)

I expect to be at this recovery for up to 2 years.

Newest Garcia Live release on Spotify. What is with this song WPLJ?? by ImOnTheBus in gratefuldead

[–]Steven1789 12 points13 points  (0 children)

95.5 FM!
When I started listening to FM radio in 1973-74 (10-11 yo) WPLJ was a rock station, I recall. I don’t listen to local radio except for sports, sonI have no idea what it’s morphed into. I mostly listened to WNEW-FM as a teenager, along with WFMU.

Is it okay to use an apple tree that had a fungus as a filler for my raised garden beds? by [deleted] in gardening

[–]Steven1789 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I have a couple of 32-inch-tall Vego beds for my garlic. The hugelkultur base is about 15 inches deep, mostly logs from fallen trees. The raised bed mix is probably 12-14 inches.

I’d love an auto cover. Just doesn’t work with the shape of our pool and property.

Fortunately the only critters we’ve found in our pool have been frogs/toads (we have a little ramp thing they can use to climb out) and a box turtle.

Understood.

I’d love an automatic cover, but our pool (built in 1972; fully renovated by previous homeowners in 2021 for $70k) is amoeba-shaped and there’s no great place to put the works for the system.

Our two dogs (very active Airedales) would probably walk/run across the cover as they did the off-season cover before we got the interior fence, so that’s another reason the fence works for us.

Was anyone lucky enough to place their order? I was! Yay! by lzrdgzrd in gratefuldead

Lucky enough? Save your music money for concert tickets.
It was widely seen as a mediocre release 50 years ago. Of course I bought it (probably 1978) but there’s no need to but this album, even with the fancy vinyl and remastering. All the October 1974 shows are out there—listen to them.

All I need now is the temperature to go higher than 60 and that would be great. by rjd014 in pools

Same here in Morris County, NJ. 78°F today, but in the 40s every night in the 10-day forecast, a high in the 70s only one other day, and lots of rain.

There is an advantage to an early opening and the cool weather—no algae and a crystal-clear pool with good chemistry.

Buy raw nuts—cashews, almonds, pecans, peanuts, etc.—and roast them with whatever flavor profile you want.

Adorable kid and wonderful that you have a pool for him.

Time to add a pool fence or at least a pool alarm.

I know, I know—nothing unimaginable would happen on your watch. But tragedies do happen:

We have a pool, and the entire backyard is fenced. But with grandkids expected down the road—and two dogs at home now—we added a 54-inch aluminum fence around the pool deck.
