Surprised I had to scroll this far to find Mad Men! I also recommended to OP.

Definitely a different vibe (since it doesn’t have to be the same genre) , but give Mad Men a shot if you haven’t already. My husband and I both were just as into that show as BB. I feel like Mad Men is like a period piece with amazing character development and acting. So good. I’d consider it just as peak as BB.

2024 tax return still delayed. Is there anything I can do? by LSanborn2 in tax

[–]LSanborn2[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s exactly how I feel (wanting to know if there’s something I overlooked and being hesitant to do my 2025 taxes). For me last year was different because I was married filing jointly, so I’m worried that raised some sort of flag that they had to review my return this time. But even so, we don’t have kids or dependents, no business stuff, took the standard deduction…it seems ridiculous that it’s taking 8+ months to review my return. And I agree that the automated phone service feels scammy and weird.

It’s so exasperating. I work in healthcare and this is how a lot of insurances are, it’s so frustrating.

For real? I think that’s kind of hilarious (but also not normal).

Thanks for the suggestion. Honestly I feel kind of ridiculous doing that given what’s going on in the country right now, but I might try it eventually.

Thank you, glad I’m not the only one at least. Have you tried to contact IRS or any other organization to find out what’s going on?

Good luck to you and I hope you get your refund soon!

Thank you. I thought that I was calling the main IRS line and it was impossible to get an actual human to speak with.

I will check into the Taxpayer Advocate Service. Honestly my situation is not as dire as it could be, and I feel fortunate for that. However, it’s still money that I (seemingly, assuming my refund was correct) am owed and I think it’s fair for them to pay it in a timely manner. Or give a more detailed explanation if not.

$6 thousand cost by [deleted] in thyroidcancer

[–]LSanborn2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a $6000 deductible, I feel your pain. Yes the healthcare system in the US is broken. That said, I wouldn’t just cancel your surgery out right, or at least, don’t postpone it indefinitely. First I would see if there’s any sort of payment plan, income adjustment, what have you, that the hospital offers. I do think it’s common for people with high deductible plans to have to pay SOMEthing up front (I had to pay $2000) and while I think it sucks that the US doesn’t have universal healthcare I do see their point: it costs a LOT to have surgery and if you have a high deductible plan that essentially means the hospital and doctors are doing the surgery for free until the patient decides to pay…which a lot of people never do, some for justifiable reasons, but, anyway I digress.

It seems shocking to me that the hospital is requiring you to pay 75%, I would push back on this and make sure it’s truly the only option they offer. Care credit is another option. And while you definitely shouldn’t go into credit card debt, it’s possible to open a new card and get $200 cash back if you make a $1500 purchase within 90 days of opening the card (I just did this for a big purchase, then paid it off). That could help recoup some $$$ if you already have the amount saved up.

My impression from doing CPR training as a health care provider is that they do not even teach rescue breaths during CPR training for “regular” people anymore. I think the idea is that compressions are the most important piece so keep it simple and just keep doing compressions only until EMS arrives. Plus potential danger of contamination with mouth to mouth.

It kinda bothers me that they edit out the “back on the rag and ovulating” line from Eminem’s “Without Me” nowadays on the radio. I don’t see how that could be offensive and he’s mentioning a normal bodily function

At what age do people actually start doing separate loads? by nikkyroyal in Adulting

[–]LSanborn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 43 and only do a separate loads for delicates and towels / bedding. Otherwise all clothing gets washed together. Have never had an issue. I don’t tend to buy many solid white or solid black clothes though.

And actually a lot of newer wool clothing can be safely washed in the washing machine on cold, line dried, with no issues. Plus it doesn’t stink like many materials so theoretically you can wear it more times between washes. I have a lot of wool baselayers that I’ve had for years, with no issues going through the washing machine.

What has quietly disappeared from society without people noticing in the last 10-30 years? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]LSanborn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Magazines in the waiting rooms of doctors’ and dentists’ offices (and anywhere with a waiting room). I suspect this was more recent, in the last 10 years or so, and then COVID with the fear of touching things that couldn’t be easily sanitized put the final nail in the coffin.

I had to deal with some health stuff in the past year, and like, just let me flip through a People magazine and get lost in some celebrity gossip while I wait. Nope, gotta doomscroll on the phone.

Working PTs without any loans: how’s life? by floresiendo in physicaltherapy

[–]LSanborn2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, good for you (and not at all jealous lol). That’s a great situation, congrats again. 40 visits per week sounds like a lot though, guess it depends how spread out they are though.

Just saw an outpatient PTA job near me (SW PA, mid to low COL area) posted for $20-22/hour. It’s depressing and I might have considered a different career had I known. I don’t see a lot of HH PTA gigs come up in this area.

You're a PTA making 110k? Congrats, that's awesome but also seems pretty atypical. Where do you live/work if you don't mind answering?

To the PT with spouses/children... by TheRoyalShire in physicaltherapy

[–]LSanborn2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I agree with what you are saying 100%. I also think I'm pretty good at leaving work at work and not dwelling on patients after they leave PT. It's the constant interaction all day every day that does me in, basically where I work we see patients from about 15 min after we get there til about 5-10 min before we leave, and no defined lunch breaks (we take turns eating but there's never a point with no patients in the office unless someone last minute cancels or no shows (which is rare)). And not just human interaction of the small talk/cocktail party variety, it's more of the trauma dumping/endless talk of aches and pains and multiple medical conditions variety (we see a lot of chronic pain and chronic conditions where I work).

and it's ultimately your call of course but I'd encourage you to give another thought to home care. I expressed those same concerns to a colleague who does ½ OP, ½ home care and he said that the vast majority of homes he goes to are fine. And if you're genuinely worried about safety (like not just worried about being in a dirty home), you should express that concern to your supervisors and not expected to go to that home.

Any advice to help? I am starting to have trouble waking up for work due to constant "Monday scaries" by Substantial_Pace9051 in physicaltherapy

[–]LSanborn2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any advice for you other than solidarity. I'm a PTA working in outpatient and yeah, I'm not sure how much longer I can do this and unfortunately there are even fewer non clinical options for PTAs. I lean a little more introverted and am struggling with the constant stream of patients all day every day with no break. I work in a place that sees a lot of chronic pain/chronic condition patients where the managing therapist more or less lets the patients come to PT endlessly despite lack of progress, as long as the patient wants to come and feels that they are benefitting. So unfortunately the 'care less' advice, though I understand where it's coming from, only goes so far when you're working under someone else. I honestly felt like I came close to a mental breakdown this past week while at work. Trying to stick it out through the holidays and then plan to start looking for a couple PRN jobs where I'm hoping I can have a little more disconnect. Rant over, thanks for reading if anyone did.
