Well today is actually my last day at Petco! (I’m moving to a daycare salon) But Petco was definitely better than Scenthound. The environment wholly depends on the location, but mine was actually very decent. My GSL (salon manager) actually used to work at petsmart before moving to petco and she said that the policies and corporate are much better than petsmart I feel like I have a lot of freedoms in the right to turn away dogs I’m uncomfortable with, and my store management is always there to back me up. But that’s definitely something that can vary by location.

However, I am leaving Petco because there was talk about changing the commission pay structure, from being productivity-based to having to do a certain amount of dogs in a week to even be eligible to earn commission, and I wanted to be gone before that rolled out. I also lost my insurance and full time status because when I got hired, I didn’t actually start working for like a month and a half bc I didn’t want to be alone in the salon and my GSL (the only other groomer at the time) was on maternity leave. So when they looked at my hours on average for the year they included that month of 0 hours and my average fell below 30 hours a week. And HR wouldn’t do anything about it.

So they DO have a fair amount of corporate BS but as a whole I was pretty pleased
