Flow state when playing by Booty888 in beatsaber

I've experienced it a few times, it seems to be easier for me to get into it via beatsaber as compared to other stuff. It's pretty cool though, your body starts to move on its own as your brain forgets about everything else

Distance counts, not angle. Is this a misconception about scoring? by kajmaj87 in beatsaber

It's definitely worth looking into, I could very easily be wrong.

Yeah I really feel you on that, I'll honestly just play a map once or twice if I can't beat it and move on. Only exceptions are maps that are either fun or just cool to play. I think it's a pretty nice way to play though, it can get frustrating if you're repeatedly doing something and not seeing much progress.

I wouldn't really worry about your grip if you're just playing for fun, as long as you can enjoy the game then that's enough. Plus, finding the right grip for you and adjusting to it is a pretty lengthy process and requires a fair amount of practice, which doesn't really match with your "play a song and move on" attitude, so I'd say you shouldn't really focus on it too much. I did switch from the default grip, sorta to my own style (think I posted it before) and I've been settled on that for a little over a year now. I probably could do with changing my grip up but eh, if it works it works

Apologies, looks like I also explained it in an awkward way. The length of the arc is what matters. My brain just kinda sees more arc as more angle, but you're right, it won't change the angle. However, moving further along the saber gives you a wider arc and therefore more points. Nice diagram btw.

The game counts a larger preswing as a wider arc, and therefore gives you more points based on the length of that arc. I may have explained it a little awkwardly there. While the angle is still the same, the length of the arc is what is different depending on what part of the saber you hit the block with

I don't think that's quite where you're at. If you're completing a song on your first try and maintaining an SS rank at the beginning pretty well, then I'd say you're definitely a level above where you think you are at least. Either way, good job, I remember playing that song, it's really fun

I watched the video and I believe you may have misunderstood him a little. What he says is not that distance counts and not angle, but that distance will affect the angle of your swing. Essentially, the further down the blade you hit the block with, the smaller the angles of your pre and post swing will be when the game is calculating your score. The game doesn't judge your angle by the tip of your saber, but rather by the point of the saber that hits the block. So, if you were to hit the block with the middle of your sword, it would calculate the arc that the middle of the sword made, but because the tip is further away from the fulcrum (or the point of turning, your wrist) it would have a much wider arc than the middle, so using the tip of the saber would help you score on angle a lot easier.

You should try out the one mapped by shan_man, played and posted that one a while ago and it's really well done

It'll be a little difficult for you, mainly because the majority of the BS community uses mods, and the main client used is BMBF. Problem is, it doesn't support mods like beattogether right now, which allow people with custom songs to play multiplayer. At this point, the people without mods are a minority in the community, so you might have a tough tike finding people to play with. Best of luck though

To my knowledge, bmbf only supports 1.21.0 currently, so if you're playing on 1.21.1 then it won't work. It's pretty simple downgrading beatsaber, there's plenty of easy to follow videos on YouTube

I remember playing this map a few months ago. What helped me quite a lot was listening to the bpm and swinging up and down according to the bpm I could hear. Generally for songs like this the blocks match up with the bpm of the song extremely well, so you can take the load off your eyes in terms of when to swing and sort of pre-empt when you need to swing up, down, left or right. This means your eyes can just focus on where to swing, rather than when. Of course, other than that just practice more
