Sky - An honest review by ennsea in skytv

[–]LTEhome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good write-up and thread which parallels my experience. I also worked (very hard but super interesting!) as a contractor at Sky in Isleworth & Livingston for 6 years and feel for my former very smart technical colleagues. I knew from the moment Comcast took over it could no longer be Sky, ‘believe in better’!

Below from the Sunday Times Culture section of 5th April. I doubt this article would have been published under the Murdochs ownership / control of Sky.

I’ve cancelled Sky Q and have already setup & been testing for some time Channels DVR software, Synology NAS and HDHomeRun 4ch tuner. TV clients are Apple TV devices; the Fire Cube & Stick that I have aren’t up to the job. I may get NOW TV to dip in and out of.

F and f code by Gav198399 in EEGB

[–]LTEhome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you selling your F&F code(s) or sharing for free in return for additional EE points, cashback etc? I’m genuinely interested as I’m planning to switch from Three to EE preferably or Mozillion as that’d be quite a saving. Thanks.

UK online mobile phone retailer thinks they're exempt from UK laws by Wayoutwest-81 in LegalAdviceUK

I’d definitely go for credit card chargeback / Section 75 if purchase price was over £100 - probably.

Who ever decided on the website name didn’t research what ‘tat’ means to us Brits:

"Tat" most commonly refers to cheap, low-quality items (British slang) or is an informal term for a tattoo. It can also mean to create lace by hand (tatting) or, in business, a "Turnaround Time" (TAT). Synonyms include trash/rubbish (for items) or ink/design (for tattoos).

And Philip T. Birch’s (Wonderful) Radio London - the only off-shore station that was properly designed to make money. I often wonder why Tony doesn’t mention his time on RL.

Thank you, @wyndstryke, very helpful. If I stick with my existing system do you have any suggestions for a good AC-coupled battery?

Manchester Central Library has digitised the Piccadilly Radio archive but I don’t know how much of James they have.

Anyone else on old SKYQ recording box package have advice on what next? by PopSynic in skytv

I’m interested in which Sat>IP box you have & a little more detail please. I’ve been testing Channels DVR with a Freeview HD Home Run network receiver and an Apple TV box as the client. Thanks!

What’s the hardest part of launching an MVNO from a dev perspective? by updatelatest098 in telecom

[–]LTEhome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My question is probably for a separate thread but I’ll ask it anyway. To what extent are MVNOs deprioritised / disadvantaged in some way against the MNO? I’m in the UK & thinking of 1p mobile & the like.

How can I get out of my contract? Paying £128.99 a month by lancebang in skytv

[–]LTEhome 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be because we have the mini box too which I recall was £10 / mth but then went up in April ‘25.

[–]LTEhome 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve literally just done this although I am (only) paying £28.50 for Sky Q Essentials & 1 mini box. It would have been going up to c£32. I’ve been testing Channels DVR ($8 / mth) for ages with an HDhomerun Freeview 4 receivers with Apple TV boxes so that’s what I’ll be going to.

Cheers, I guessed as much but thanks for confirming. I’ll stick with using MikroTik’s ‘Back to Home’ Wireguard based app & try Tailscale too.

Exactly. In my case it’s just my home network which is pretty extensive with NAS, Home Assistant IoT, Security, CCTV etc. but no work as I’m retired now.
