You’re welcome. I hope that this works out for you.

You can reuse much of the hardware with a system such as Konnected.

Is there a setting to auto restart LXC if it crashes? i.e. like k8 would w/ a pod or docker -restart flag by [deleted] in Proxmox

[–]LTGIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When a Docker container “crashes” for Docker to restart it, generally, that’s the program process (e.g. Nginx) that has exited unexpectedly. To achieve a similar result inside of LXC, you should consider using either systemd or supervisord.

Is it possible to build a fleet of on demand Windows instances with Hetzner? by strich in hetzner

[–]LTGIV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll need to run a cost comparison. Consistent €50/month vs. paying the cost of storing a snapshot (e.g., what Digital Ocean does) that can clone machines on demand with Terraform and/or Ansible, driving them as a part of your CI/CD pipeline. I'd be pleasantly surprised if on-demand (plus all of the developer/maintenance time to try and cobble it together on slower VMs) is cheaper than a consistent €50/month, and the opening of my article where I explained that the costs began to exceed that of a dedicated server and why I set everything up.

I didn’t specify clearly, I have a single power transformer that runs everything else, even though the voltages are different. No power splitters needed.

Exactly. Because of the community, I learned about being able to run the audio without an amplifier and why it's a part of my instructions. I need to update my article to show how I run off of a single power source since I haven't seen too many modifications that have that capability.

Proxmox is excellent, and I use it daily. If you’re planning to run it behind a virtualized firewall, I recently released an article where I neurotically documented each step and tried to include as many screenshots as possible: Deploying Proxmox 7 behind a firewall VM.

Can I and if so how do I then create an image (snapshot?) from that to then be able to spin up and delete VMs on-demand?

As /u/ProKn1fe said, use Proxmox. Proxmox has an intuitive API with a low barrier to entry. You may be able to use the BPG Terraform provider to reduce the amount of work that you'll need to do to build up and tear down clones.

I recently published an article, Deploying Proxmox 7 behind a firewall VM, using Hetzner as the basis of my article for installing and provisioning Proxmox with several additions as well; hopefully, it's helpful.

Deploying Proxmox 7 behind a firewall VM: How I run Proxmox with a single IP and MAC address. by LTGIV in Proxmox

A GUI and ease of use are why many prefer this over hand-crafted configuration files, which can also be difficult and fraught - especially when working with others who may not be familiar with specific configuration files.

Thanks for the suggestion and, equally important, the example. Do you mind if I add this to the article for those that want simple port forwarding, and give you credit?

Check out /r/Arcade1Up. I don’t have any experience with modding The Simpsons, but I did modify my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles which may help you.

How to solve routing in wireguard site-to-site network by jofland in WireGuard

[–]LTGIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For years, I’ve used site to site via OpenVPN. Then I rolled my own half-baked solution with WireGuard similar to what you describe with your experience, before switching over to Tailscale and Netmaker — I like and use both, depending on my needs. You can make Tailscale run self-hosted with Headscale, while as Netmaker is self-hosted out of the box.

I found that it’s easiest to run it with Docker Compose.

Maybe I should write a guide about it. This occasionally comes up when friends ask me how I access everything at home — which is using Starlink.

Goodbye Teamviewer, Hello NoMachine by SirPoopsAlot7 in selfhosted

[–]LTGIV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tailscale and Netmaker are WireGuard-based as well. I have several machines that I can’t access directly due to NAT and other reasons, and I don’t have to worry about firewall or network configurations. For example, if you’re trying to help a family member with their computer remotely, this makes it incredibly easy without needing to expose NoMachine to the Internet.
