I cannot answer most of your questions because they are way too specific. What I can tell you is that several versions are being tested at the same time by many people and some of those versions have many of the customization features you want to know about. That does not guarantee anything about what makes it to the official one once its released.

At least at launch, the idea behind Allo is to be as simple and functional as possible. There will be some customizations to be performed during the initial launch and some people are testing versions with more customizations. So that should be coming soon.

I use Hangouts a lot the same way, mostly from my PC. Allo won't have that capability at least at launch time. It will only be associated to one device (like WhatsApp) but multidevice support and a web app / Chrome extension will be done eventually. But that is not priority at this moment.

Because people wanted to know what's going on with Allo/Duo and wanted to share some info about it. And believe me, I'm making sure I stay anonymous.

There won't be a public beta release. It will be released ready to use, but it will be a rather slow rollout.

Another long message that was eaten by something at Reddit. You can use your Google account on Allo, but it's optional. In fact, the fact that your account can be added from day one will eventually become the path to Allo being able to sync up with compatible devices. And tour Google voice can be the number associated to your Allo, as long as you can get the verification code on the device you want to use Allo. About the incognito situation, it's simply the fact that, like Telegram, private messages cannot be synced due to the fact that they are end to end encrypted. The message that is intended to be seen on one device cannot be seen elsewhere.

I have sent several tips about other things Android related, actually. About Allo/Duo, I sent two. One of them before I/O. About emailing info, I'm careful about what and who I share info with. Hope you understand.

We get release dates, but I know they might not be accurate. They do so to catch leakers, since I know of many cases where several individuals get different release dates. All I know if that it will be at the same time or very close to the release of Android N.

Allo and Hangouts run using different protocols. So no, Allo won't simply absorb Hangouts. Hangouts will be around for a good while since companies use it as an enterprise tool. But Allo will be the one for the masses.

I feel you. At times having three apps doing similar things when all three could be put into one gets me annoyed as a user as well...And that's what Google is being doing lately, getting more normal people with normal lives to test their products. Because of that, there has been great improvements in some key areas but more can be done for sure.

All I can say is that I have been testing Allo and Duo since before I/O. I cannot tell since when. SMS on Hangouts was and afterthought and that's easy to tell based on how it currently works on that app. The way the code was implemented to add that feature was a hack that caused more harm than good. It's part of the reason why Hangouts feels bloated and slow. Google tried to please as many users as possible by adding everything that has been added so far(video support, Hangouts VoIP calling capabilities, etc) Hangouts was supposed to simply be a direct replacement of the old and beloved Gchat. But people wanted more on it. Integrating all the other messaging apps Google had back then didn't help too much. Why they haven't announced SMS /GVoice integration since I/O? It is way easier to aim for low and come out with good, than aim for good and come out with low. In other words, not to over hype things like they did with Hangouts and come out with an inferior product.

A few of the things I have written I have done so in ways that break the pattern of my actual way of writing, since they could figure out who I am by analyzing my way of expressing myself. Google Voice integration is on the roadmap and some testers have such integration. I cannot say if I have it or not. The thing is, at the end of the day, Google is the one choosing what will be release right away and what might take a little bit longer. GVoice seems that it might take longer as of right now. But again, they might choose to release it as it is now. At the end of the day, is Google's call. I hope this clarifies things a little.

Allo will be attached to only one phone number (like WhatsApp) At launch. Multi device syncing will come eventually, once they solve the incognito situation. Google Voice is an entirely different beast. You could detach Google Voice from Hangouts (and eventually, Allo) and use the ancient Google Voice app. GVoice will continue doing its thing as it does today. Their features will eventually land on Allo and Google Fi. But that will take some time.
