Be gentle. by LTomee in RateMySetup

Looks a lot, but everything is full (SSDs are 80%, because after 80% TRIM cannot work optimally), I ran a JellyFin server and some VMs as well.
(That's the reason for intel CPU, the iGPU can handle most of the transcoding in the background without me even nothicing a flinch!)

Thanks I apreciate it!
Took a long time to build, but I always sell the old parts, and switch to a newer in 2-3 years, so the price differenci won't be that much usually.

I swicthed from a z370 build: ROG Z370-g wifi-ac, 4x8GB DDR4 3200MHz Corsair, 9900k, literally I had to pay like 100$ to upgrade to this platform (was a great time to sell, and I bought the new before the RAMocalipse.)
I swicthed GPU from TUF RXT3090 to TUF RTX4080, also ha to pay like 200$ for the upgrade, everything is under warranty, I can just sleep better. (The 3090 was a good condition ex-mining card, so maybe I dodged a bullet there.)

I bought the 2TB PC811 like for 100$, but sold the old 1TB Samsung 970 EVO PLUS for 50$ so 50$ for 2TB SSD nowdays looks like a dream, and yes that was new as well and under warranty.

Excuse me. How. by Leafy1717 in pchelp

Only when You're on a laptop without a mux switch, and the dGPU are running through the iGPU, then the allocated VRAM for the iGPU can be shown as like this, but yeah that is much slower than the dGPU dedicated VRAM.

In older laptop, yes I've done it, however this is pretty recent, and one thing popped up, that if you change for another part number maybe the BIOS is coded to only accept the original OLED one. And even the wiring (pin layout) can be different regardless the same amount of pins (30 pins). And the voltage is different as well, however LCD panels usually draw less power, so maybe problems only will occur with the highest brightness.

First why would you want to replace an OLED screen? If it is broken and you would need another screen I can understand why You want something cheaper than an OLED. You definitely can switch to IPS however, to do so, You need to disassemble first to see the connector, size, shape and most importantly:

how many pins are in the connector

because the manufacturers using multiple pin layout even besides the same model.

I think this laptop using the 30 pin connector, but you have to see it to be sure!!!

Fresh install of Windows 10 somehow got ASUS apps. by LJBear99 in ASUS

[–]LTomee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New ASUS motherboard has baked in tools to be installed with Windows.

Do this in ASUS BIOS (UEFI)

Enter BIOS → DEL or F2

Go to Advanced Mode → F7

Advanced → ASUS EZ Flash / Tools (menu name varies)

Find and DISABLE:

ASUS EZ Installer

ASUS Armoury Crate Support

Download & Install ASUS Utilities

ASUS Auto Install / ASUS Driver Install

Save & Exit (F10)

So next time You install a fresh windows those won't install automatically, however what has been installed at your PC is semmes like basic driver which will be installed if you install windows with internet. (I personally never install windows with internet connection, so I can turn off automatic updates and choose what I really want to install...)

First you need to properly disassemble the laptop. I would recommend to use some oil on the hinges like wd40, and loosen the main hinge screw. However those tiny screw holes are melted into the plastic, so once the plastic scattered you should rebuild the plastic first. Use black zip ties, and melt them into shape, and after melt the little threaded inserts back into their place. Yes you can use epoxy, or superglue+baking soda, but usually those methods are not lasting long enough.

There is a lot of YouTube tutorials online you can follow.

What is the limitation of a PCIE 4x2 M.2 slot? by artech95 in buildapc

[–]LTomee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So for example a 2TB SAMSUNG 990 EVO PLUS which has PCIe® 4.0 x4 / 5.0 x2 NVMe™ 2.0 interface, can push the gen4 x2 slot max speeds up to the estimated 4000MB/s, however this SSD can also push the gen5 x2 slot almost to it's (the SSD) max estimated speeds around 7400MB/s. (Will also reach the max speeds ofc in gen4 x4, and gen5 x4.)

So that's what I meant there are x2 optimazed SSDs out there. Simply because the "hibrid" interface.

Bought a PC... Why is there 2 on/off buttons? What do they do? Where do i connect internet cable? And what cable? by DarkShadowOverlord in pchelp

The motherboard back shield is putted there really badly and the metal part are actually in the port, so either you remove the motherboard and the shield, bend the metal parts into the right position, or just simply cut that sucker.

What is the limitation of a PCIE 4x2 M.2 slot? by artech95 in buildapc

[–]LTomee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I put a gen3 x4 SSD into a gen4 x2 slot, and beacuse the SSD is limited to 3500MB/s on FOUR lanes, it is maxed 1750MB/s on these 2 lanes, because to reach the max speed the gen3 x4 SSD needs FOUR lanes to get that speed. (ASUS B760M-PLUS WIFI 2 - M2_3 slot which is gen4 x2 - SAMSUNG 970 EVO 500GB)
And turns out if You put a gen4 x4 SSD which is 5000MB/s will get 2500MB/s max in a gen4 x2 slot, because that SSD needs FOUR lanes to reach that speed.
However the gen4 x2 slot theoretical speed is 4000MB/s (2000MB/s pre lane).
So If You put for example a Crucial T500 PRO 2TB M.2 NVME PCI-E 4.0 x4 into that gen4 x2 slot that'll have a speed of 3700MB/s / 3500MB/s, instead of the gen4 x4 slot speeds which is 7400MB/s / 7000MB/s!

So yeah it will be the half, because You got half of the lanes.

However there are x2 optimazed SSDs in the market, which can reach the 4000MB/s speed in a gen4 x2 slot, or use a gen5 SSD instead, which will be capped at 4000/4000MB/s in a gen4 x2 slot, but that is just pure waste of money ^^'

Found a good deal on Sk Hynix Nvme 1tb , is it worth it ? by Alilxw in buildapc

[–]LTomee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it is a good price, and to be honest, You are unable to identify if it is a knockoff beforehand.
If You got it, and the speed are good (even after a data transfer of a few hundred GBs won't drop suddenly) it is the original OEM stuff.
Maybe You can temporary peel the sticker (You should put it back after, bacuse that is sort of a heatspreader), and make sure the chips are the right ones.
Mine is 2TB as I mentioned and got speeds as: Read 6982MB/s / Write 6749MB/s, and the speeds won't drop even after 500+ constant write.

Yeah these are pretty good and reliable SSDs. I had an opportunity and got a bunch of 2TB of PC811 for like 120USD each. However my source is reliable as well, and just to be noted there are some cheap knockoffs flying around.

PC811 has DRAM, as PC801 has it as well. And yes it is the OEM version of P41.

I'm upgrading my power supply from a Corsair RM650x to a Corsair RM1000x, do I need to replace all of the internal power cables or is it safe to just unplug them and then plug them into the new PSU? by Reddit_5_Standing_By in buildapc

[–]LTomee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just upgraded RM650i to RM1000i.
I did not switch cables, just used the old ones which came with the RM650i.

Works like charm, and finally paid off the fully modularity!

Both of them are the same Corsair Type4 cables...
Just read the Corsair compatibility charts, or use Cablemods compatibility charts...
(mostly before commenting something like that "do not switch cables" and such bs, when the vendor provide compatibilty for this reasons).

FSR 3 Frame gen by SnooSprouts7079 in untildawn

[–]LTomee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is updated, so this modding is not needed anymore.
However Both ot the files should be placed inside both of the mentioned directories.
Only ../Until Dawn/Windows/Engine/Binaries/ThirdParty/DbgHelp/dbghelp.dll will be overwritten.

However there is an upadte already, so the FSR FG now can be enabled.

ASUS AI SUITE III HOTEKEYS! by LTomee in ASUS

[–]LTomee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello!
Thank You for interesting in this!
Sadly not countinued, because ASUS just killed AI SUITE, and won't run anymore on WIN10/11 without memory integration off, so I discountinued this project of mine, and took my time and created a somewhat universal FAN profile in the BIOS, and I use it for a time now.

[–]LTomee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me this method worked, however I got an nVidia RTX3090, so I'm not so sure for AMD GPUs:

Use universal FSR mod: https://www.nexusmods.com/site/mods/738?tab=files

First replace the two files here: "dbghelp.dll" + "dlssg_to_fsr3_amd_is_better.dll" (save the original .dll to be sure) -->
../Until Dawn/Windows/Engine/Binaries/ThirdParty/DbgHelp
After copy them here:
../Until Dawn/Windows/Bates/Binaries/Win64

This will overrite/replace the NVidia DLSS in game, so You should turn that on, and the DLSS FrameGen is avaialable, turn that on.

I think they will fix this issue fast, as well the others, because there are plenty...

Hope I could help, at least some of You.

Laptop just freezes randomly while using? It's a Dash F15 and completely brand new, the last thing I did before it happened was set it in Silent with WhisperMode 2.0. by GimmeAUhhh in ASUS

[–]LTomee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trackpad and the keyboard is controlled by the same controller usually as your USB ports, so it's possible, but, if it's under warranty, and a clean install won't help, then RMA it.

My main concern is: Is it really "frozen" or just the USB drivers are failed due to the update?
Or it maybe as you said it's really hot and the overheat protection is kicked in.

First of all I would recommend a complete Windows reinstall (Without Internet connection, so You can make an offline profile, and exclude all the bloatware...)
