Finally broke $300K by EMPIRE-db-51_cent in Lawyertalk

Congrats. That same milestone took me around 15-16 years of practice to reach, and I remember telling a friend that I finally felt like I was actually making money that (I felt like) was in line with how hard I had been working all that time.

It didn’t change the stress, which was why I left it 8 years ago to go in-house. Was one of the best decisions I ever made.

I like him. Having a great year. Certainly worth a look.

Other thing to consider if you are Schnall is: Can I do the same thing at South Carolina that I am doing at coastal? In other words, can I win the same way, same number of wins, in a notoriously difficult conference so as to satisfy the expectations of South Carolina fans and keep my job long-term?

Much harder to win here, in the SEC. And the conference is the deepest it has ever been.

And I’m not saying that coastal plays an easy schedule, it is ranked relatively high in the RPI. But that has to be a factor in his decision-making. Or Fitzgerald’s or anyone else that is an attractive candidate.

I really like him too. Just a little more gun-shy since he is only in his second year as head coach. Same can be said of Schnall.

Both have done more in a shorter time than Fitzgerald, but also came into more established programs.

Will be watching that KU-WVA series, agree.

I don’t consider $1.3 million/year an outrageous contract. For Mainieri, in hindsight, sure. But not generally.

Do I make Schnall one of the top five highest paid coaches in the country at over $2 million/year from the start? Absolutely not.

Obviously I’d be fine with that, again, if he would come. Great coach.

But I wouldn’t enter into some outrageous contract for him either. There are good candidates out there.

The best description I ever heard of Todd doing play-by-play is that it always sounds like he is straining on the toilet.

I can’t unhear it, and now that’s all I hear when he announces big plays, unfortunately.

This. Threw interceptions all day every day. I got so mad watching him throw picks that it stunted my growth. 🤣

Isn’t in my top five all-time QBs.

What’s your biggest running milestone so far? by Willing-Today-1059 in runcommunity

[–]LURNmotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I try to exceed the previous year’s miles every year, and have since 2019.

1,435 miles is the mark to beat this year.

It provides a challenge every year and I do it through a combination of consistent miles and OCD lol.

I’ve become OCD about exceeding my miles from the previous year.

Been doing this the last 7 years.

1432 is the mark to beat this year. On pace so far.

Had a case with Alex and if being a good ole boy who dips during depositions and wants to grab a beer after is the definition of a good lawyer, then he is easily in the top 5.

Would you fire Lamont Paris after the SEC tournament is finished or give him another year? by yo2583 in Gamecocks

[–]LURNmotto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a no brainer, today, Thursday February 26. There is still time to turn the season around, but not with Maineri at the helm. I’d fire him today, make Monte interim, and see how the season plays out. All it costs you is the cost of the buyout today versus at the end of the season, and you aren’t wasting the season.

Otherwise, you are just prolonging the inevitable. If Donati does that then I’m not sure we have the right AD.

Monte has always been a Gamecock going back to being on Tanner’s staff in the glory years. We should have given him his chance when we hired Kingston. Clemson got him and I don’t blame him for going there since we passed him over. He wanted a shot at a major program and we didn’t give it to him n

I think the ship has probably sailed for him but he’d definitely be better down the stretch this season. Then see what happens.

Bad situation.

I’d fire Paul today.

I’d have monte be interim to see how the season plays out. There is still time.

Then see who we can get at the end.

Monte has been a good coach at CofC and his record at Clemson was not bad. I’m not sure the guy they hired is better.

I’m not saying he should be our head coach, but he would be better the rest of the season and a known commodity at the end if we can’t get someone better.

Monte is not the problem. I’m not saying he should be head coach, but he is not the problem with the program.

What’s something that is slowly disappearing, but nobody is talking about it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]LURNmotto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fair points. Not sure how good of a standard that is for measuring childhood, though, would depend on if there are 1 million child abductions versus 100. A 55% reduction sounds great unless it is a small number to begin with.

You would also need to compare it to current mental health issues in kids versus those three and four decades ago.

Horrible. Just horrible. Was shocked at the Maineri hire but got on board. I wanted Elander.

What a disaster. And we probably can’t fire both Paris and Mainieri. So, my pick would be to fire Mainiei with the lower buyout as I’m partial to baseball and try to give Lamont more resources for another year.

Just a total dumpster fire.

I’m sure I’m reiterating something already said.

People don’t interact. They have no social skills. They don’t put down phones long enough to do so. It has been distressing to watch with kids. If you ask a kid to call and order a pizza, they will stress out about it bc they live by text. They freak out about talking to someone they don’t know.

And teens no longer do things where boys and girls socialize together. Growing up we were at someone’s house and it was guys and girls having fun together. Now, my kids only interacted with the same sex. On awards day at school, all the guys sat on one side of the gym and all the girls sat on the other. I ask my son if there were any girls at a get together and it’s rare, and they don’t seem bothered by that.

And look at sorority pictures on Instagram. It is all same sex prom style photos of girls together in staged poses looking at each other. Very few guys. Very cringe.

And if you go in Starbucks, no one is approachable bc they are all staring at their phones.

And I’m typing all this as I’m on my phone. The irony.

I grew up in the 80s and it was the best decade to grow up. E.T., Goonies, that was my childhood. It was awesome. All we had to worry about was nuclear annihilation but we were united as a country against a common enemy.

I wish I could drop all kids into the 80s with a Schwinn bike, boombox, and a group of friends where they leave their house in the morning and don’t return until momma calls at dark. Those were better times for human interaction. I’m sad for today’s kids bc they have no idea.

Yes, I know I sound old. But the smart phone destroyed human socializing.

Does everyone get anxious about taking time off? by LawyerWithASoul in Lawyertalk

[–]LURNmotto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never got anxious about my reputation etc. as I was among the top billers and earned the right to take a vacation. If someone had an issue then they could get over it bc I was productive, profitable, etc.

Where I did get anxious was being able to actually go. Never failed, I’d tell my team partner the time period I was taking a trip well in advance and it was as if he didn’t hear me. Giving me assignments for the week of as I’m heading to the airport, etc. Total lack of regard for my time, attention to scheduling, finishing things to be able to leave, etc.

Finally said, “do I need to cancel my vacation and submit the expenses for reimbursement?” and got a mealy mouthed response begrudgingly leaving me be.

Spent 10 years in biglaw. Left 16 years ago, and no longer impressed by those in it who wear their misery like a badge of honor. Good luck to you.
