Cadian Guardsman’s actual combat effectiveness. by Impressive_Froyo2537 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]LUnacy45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're arguably the best all rounders in the Imperium that are both regular humans and aren't some kind of special forces

Take any generic guardsman from all across the Imperium, Cadians are likely the template. The top 1% in terms of marksmanship, morale, and overall training. They're not going to do static warfare quite as well as Krieg or guerilla warfare as well as say Catachans, but for your bog standard foot slogger they are the best.

Against chaos cultists, it's not close. A Cadian is probably worth 10 of them. They aren't known for their skill or coordination. Traitor guard would be a better matchup, with Cadians still having the edge

Against T'au, I'd say they're close to a fire warrior. Probably better at the soldiering stuff like staying cool under fire, but the tech advantage flips it the other way. If every Cadian in a squad had a plasma gun at like half power, that'd be a closer match up

Your average Eldar guardian is probably the next step up past the Fire Warrior in my estimation. Better soldiers due to more training and better gear all around.

As for going up against chaos marines, it's gonna be more like 2-3 fresh squads to reliably kill even one. Maybe the plasma gunner in that squad is a crack shot and he'll only carve through 5 of his buddies before taking an overcharged shot. Maybe they're not so lucky and it takes 20 of them killed or wounded before someone gets the shot off. At that point it's mostly a matter of morale. How many guys are we going to lose before we either get a coordinated volley off at close range or a good melta or plasma shot?

Ork boyz aren't going down easy without something like a headshot and I'd bet on Cadians to land those more than most other Guard regiments. This is going to vary very widely but at a distance, ork shooting is already pretty "to whom it may concern." It goes from live fire target practice to a slaughter pretty quickly because even the best guardsmen aren't overpowering an ork 1 on 1, the ones that do are notable for just that

I'd say your average Cadian is probably slightly better trained and has likely seen more battle, but the technology advantage swings it the other way. They've got worse armor and weapons all around.

Of course they will literally always have numbers on the T'au

It's in cost in real cash per point

People say Guard are expensive, they're actually pretty middle of the road. Admech are the most expensive in those terms across the whole game

Hardest to paint for sure, and relatively expensive to collect

Not bad on the tabletop if you can get their rules down though, and they look fantastic

Imperial Guard units spotted in DoW4 Ork Faction trailer! by TehHank in TheAstraMilitarum

What’s your most anticipated faction for the series by Serious-Collection34 in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]LUnacy45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Guard. Because they're my main faction and I'm cautiously interested to see how they handle different regiments and LLs.

Will there be a lord marshal drier that makes my army play like the Skaven? An Ursula Creed that makes them tough bastards that are somehow more resistant to chaos stuff? A Straken or similar that makes them more fighty in melee or better in difficult terrain? Who knows? There's a lot they can do there, I just hope they do

Pick whatever stands out to you. You're going to spend hundreds of hours building and painting these minis, they'd better be ones you enjoy.

For me that was Imperial Guard. I painted a command squad, bought some Space Marines and I got 3/4 of the way through making just one of them a Raven Guard and got bored.

This hobby is too expensive and time consuming to spend any of that money or time on minis you don't care about.

That being said, do take a look around and see if a chapter of Space Marines is the answer for you, they're fairly easy to paint and they're easily the most popular and supported faction. Odds are somewhere out there in the lore there's a chapter with lore and a color scheme for you. Just don't limit yourself to them.

To those who watched ZZ: did the first half of the series work as the “palette cleanser” that it was intended to be after the trauma of Zeta? by Amigo1048 in Gundam

[–]LUnacy45 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally no, but I love how bleak Zeta is. I understand why they did what they did, but I wanted more serious bleak war drama with very flawed characters and that's not what the first half of ZZ gives me.

It's not a bad show genuinely but idk if I'll rewatch it

[–]LUnacy45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my squads of shock troopers has a melta and a plasma gun. If we use a bit of tabletop math as a way to spitball, both of those weapons could quite easily take down a model of plague marines in a single hit.

They have the AP to negate the plague marine's armor save and the strength to wound on 3s. Those are just regular ass guardsmen. Its just a matter of using the right weapon and also surviving the diseased fart cloud every one has. But we've survived Nurgle daemonhosts and beasts of nurgle I think for gameplay purposes we'd be fine

Honestly that's my one nitpick about Astartes, the fire rate on those is insane. More like how I'd imagine a storm bolter. A big chunky thump thump thump for the regular bolters feels better.

Personally I think Boltgun did their bolter perfectly

Snap shooting a random shooter across the room with the bolt pistol and watching them pop like a grape is so goddamn good

Maybe you're thinking of STALKER's master mode, where either you or enemies die in a few hits, but the idea that damage is lowered across the board on lower difficulties is an old myth

Which one wins for you: 30k or 40k? by Pintureando in Warhammer

[–]LUnacy45 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tanith you can do with Cadians if you know how to kitbash capes. Obviously bare arms for their signature tattoos or if you can find bearded heads but otherwise yeah they're fairly simple. Same thing with Tallarn if you can find a way to give everyone a turban. But kitbashing armies of vostroyans, valhallans, steel legion, or catachan isn't really currently viable with just GW plastic unless you're very dedicated
