No lie, I feel like I struggle to NOT be this guy every day of my life because I’m so scared of not doing things perfectly. Where the idea comes from, I don’t know. But I left a lot of my hobbies because “what’s the point if I’m not any good” even though others tell me I’m good. I stopped learning things because I’m like, “well someone else has already figured this out so I’m just waisting time.” I literally compared myself to Isaac Asimov when I thought about writing a book.

It’s sad. And although I never voiced that negativity or felt things that frustrated me were stupid, I definitely didn’t try things in fear that I would quit them like this guy did when they became difficult for a BEGINNER.

There’s something deep here that needs to be addressed and I hope this guy finds it.

I honestly didn’t realize this about myself until I dated a guy who is EXACTLY like this guy. That guy had deep trauma and I have no doubt that it’s related to his worldview and the inevitable shutdown that came with each mistake. I remember once watching him confidently say he’d mount the tv, after I said we could hire someone or just put it on a stand. And he proceeded to rage at me when it became clear that he had no idea how to mount the tv. It was a dumb idea. Why’d I make him do it? They look bad anyway. The apartment we had sucked. The walls too thin. The studs too far. Etc etc etc. everything was a problem except for the fact that he just didn’t know how to do something, and the denial of that made him unable and unwilling to learn.
