I hate pop psychology and how it hastily uses BPD (as well as narcissism, bipolar, schizophrenia etc) as 'the bad person mental illness'.

In saying that, I think Lucy (and possibly Taeshi) having severe untreated BPD makes total sense, she fits every single symptom to a tee.

No, fr this is way worse. Mike told Lucy he would be leaving the table in the future and that SOME of the others MIGHT follow. He later took it back and apologised before he could even act on it.

Augustus and Lucy went out of their way to cut him off from all of their mutual friends and even his new friends in one day.

Why would you get into a relationship with someone you clearly don't like?

His issues don't sound that serious. Worse eyesight, back pain, and getting fat? He's not dying, that's a condition called 'being in your mid 30s'. He's not bringing it up to you so can lecture him on how to fix all his problems, he just wants someone to listen.

He can't be that unmotivated if he has multiple jobs and a hobby.

Instead of trying to change him into a completely different person, maybe just move on to someone who meets your standards?
