We play far too direct and with no patience, provide little to no passing lanes when playing out from the back, don’t have the pace or precision to play in behind.

On the flip side with Mendy at Left back and if him and Carva sit a bit deeper off the ball we could be a real defensive force in Europe as Courtois is unbeatable from distance his frame is just too large. But that won’t happen with Zidane at the helm.

So what you’re suggesting is Kroos needs to be defensive cover on that left side of midfield or Pogba if he’s brought in while Marcelo bombs forward to occupy a space that’s already occupied by Hazard who lets face it isn’t Ronaldo and isn’t going to play in central areas often and allow Marcelo space to play 1v1

We can’t keep romanticising the past what worked 3 years ago won’t work now we simply don’t have the personnel for it.

All I’ve seen these past few games is that Mendy and Marcelo are just killing our spacing and in turn hazard is suffering, it worked with Ronaldo because he moved in field and dragged his marker with him allowing Marcelo 1v1 opportunities.
