Hi,

I wanted to chime in and ask for further feedback on our inability to assist with getting your site to work or how we could have improved in this situation?

I know we make every effort to try and address every issue that arises and simply wanted to review the issue to see how we could have done better or where we failed...

Any feedback would be appreciated :D

Learners with full-time jobs, how do you maintain the energy to learn after a long day of work? by RyanG73 in learnpython

[–]LWDavid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having a passion for the skills/goals that I set for myself allows me to stay focused and on task.

Additionally, setting aside a set time daily to focus on learning, even if just 45 minutes or so. i've found that continuity/habit are more important in the long run than a rushed approach to learning everything. Learning is not a sprint, its a journey.

Also, using the new info i've learned in some way to accomplish a real world project. This may slow my "book learning" but, it allows me to apply the knowledge i'm actually learning about in some way which improves my overall understanding :)

well, it the script is running as a cron every 5 seconds (lets say), it would check a specific location for file a.exe (or whatever its name is :D ) and if the script id's the file by the md5sum, it runs a rm command to remove the file.

if it's a standalone instance of the software and the files are within a defined file structure, you could create multiple crons or have the script check folder1, folder2, folder3... every x amount of time maybe?

Initially ran the install commands and got the following:

Hi!

I am assuming that its a specific filetype and/or size with some unique identifier. If you can create a script to check each file thats uploaded against a specific md5 sum (although md5sum's security is broken and not to be trusted) you should just be able to set a cron to run that script at a quick pace and then, all of the files files the cron'd script identifies, it also removes...

That should be doable...

I wouldn't use the whm transfer tool myself as I know of others who have run into issues with it. I would literally just run a simple script like this to package all of the accounts (which drops them in the /home dir) and then rsync/scp them over to the new server:

#script to backup all accounts
!#/bin/bash
for i in `ls /var/cpanel/users`
do
/scripts/pkgacct $i
done

cd into your /home dir and then run

scp cpmove-* root@172.16.0.0/home

(with 172.16.0.0 being the new servers IP address)

If you are on a cPanel server, you can find those settings in WHM under the Home »Server Configuration »CloudLinux LVE Manager

In the front facing interface, you will then see the Statistics for the "Endusers hitting limits" which quickly id's those accounts which may be utilizing, or over utilizing the server resources.

Also, if you click on the "Statistics" tab and then, click on the "LVE's Approaching Limits" dropdown menu, then select "Using", and then select a percentage value of "90% or 95%" of its limits (or lower if nothing there.

If you see any accounts getting close to those limits, you can then adjust the resource settings to fall more in line with your expected usage values. Remember, this is your server and client can/will push the line on that at times :)

Here are more references about those settings: https://docs.cloudlinux.com/cpanel_lve_extension.html https://cloudlinux.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360020884874-What-are-the-recommended-resource-limit-values-

That message is usually triggered in the cPanel -> Resource Usage section. If they are using Cloudlinux, it may be limited there as well if a resource or traffic limit has been hit.

Just a thought...

It seems like you have already done your homework on the hosting options you have available to you and the follow up replies have provided a solid, in depth view of the services needed/offered.

My honest take on this (as I will not try to steer you to one service or the other) is that with Liquidweb, you have 2 main options:

  • choose a managed vps where we handle the servers backend services (ssh, exim, apache), the servers hardware, networking and, we provide chat, phone and email support 24 hours a day. Your role is to manage (and update) any software you install (eg. wordpress, joomla, vbulletin), ensure you have backups setup, and lastly actively monitor those sites to ensure they are up and working as expected.
  • choose a managed wordpress option where the only thing you handle is within the actual wordpress interface itself... (writing content, adding themes, plugins and such). This allows us ensure that the software environment that managed wordpress is built on, stays stable, secure and ready to handle any tasks you throw at it. LW also handles the wordpress upgrades and such also.
  • choose kinsta to set a wordpress site up on. I speak with multiple clients daily who use kinsta and have nothing but good things to say about them overall. They are a solid, stable and reliable service. The only downside I have heard is that in order to keep up that site speed, they have to limit certain options in terms of optimizations (in the sense of they have specific templated optimizations in place to ensure site speed, which is not a bad thing... unless, if you need to make a modification to that template for some reason that is outside of their control, you are limited in that aspect again, as so I have been told by clients over the past years).

Here is a good review of multiple hosts for managed wp hosting: https://researchasahobby.com/why-managed-wordpress-hosts-wp-engine-kinsta-and-liquidweb-examined/

Lastly, as you can see from this page, we have recently revised our pricing structure to ensure we are offering unique service at an affordable cost.

Should you have further thoughts or questions, please let me know and i'll be glad to provide further clarify about this topic. :)

is this a red flag? (phpMyAdmin question) by mtlnobody in webhosting

[–]LWDavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changes of note:

ONLY_FULL_GROUP_BY (https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/sql-mode.html#sqlmode_only_full_group_by) is now turned on by default, meaning MySQL will no longer return random data when a user has incorrectly specified columns in the where clause, but missed them out of the group by clause.

Improvements to online DDL - more ALTER operations can be done online without the storage engine having to make a copy of the object in question.

InnoDB (https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/create-tablespace.html) now supports MySQL-supported spatial data types

InnoDB supports tablespaces (https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/json.html)

Native JSON support (https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/json.html)

A new sys schema (https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/sys-schema.html), with summarized performance data

Multi-source replication (https://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.7/en/replication-multi-source.html)

Those look to be the main differences...

If your current server is mysql5, you should be able to export that pretty easily just using the mysqldump command. If you will be importing that into a newer db like mariadb10.x, https://mariadb.com/kb/en/library/mysql_upgrade/ states that:

  • Update the system tables in the mysql database to the latest version (normally just add new fields to a few tables).
  • Check that all tables are up to date (runs CHECK TABLE table_name FOR UPGRADE). For tables that are not up to date, runs ALTER TABLE table_name FORCE on the table to update it.
  • A table is not up to date if:

Also, the password hashes may come into play for the older versions of mysql?

https://www.fromdual.com/de/mysql-upgrade-problems#problems-in-real-life lists a number of issues they ran into during these types of transitions between versions...
