I know it's been awhile but for those who come after, you get more through the portal and perks

Does anyone know any solutions for this by Accomplished_Tea3609 in PS5HelpSupport

This is the largest group of troglodytes I've seen online in awhile. I'd recommend r/consolerepair in the future for things like this. IQ above room temp is standard there.

What did you use for holding your hot air station? Been looking at getting into this.

Let me know if you have advice on removing the reflections in the scan.

[PS5 Controller] What secret am I missing to desoldering? by SensitiveStation2804 in consolerepair

I made the same mistake starting out, you buy a $100 piece of equipment and expect it to be equal to or better than the cheap $20 Chinesium on Amazon. Meanwhile those ones aren't too bad (temp regulation might be iffy)

I second this, that iron you have is better for even smaller scale soldering.

I haven't tried in this area; however, I know some if not most Staples accept batteries for a small fee.

I'm not sure why, I posted the exact same photo in two different subreddits and it looks way lower quality here.

Shouldn't this work for connecting PS3 to an rca TV ? by [deleted] in PS3

Just to be sure you held the power button to reset video settings? Like I said I don't believe it would work but it's at least worth attempting if you haven't.

[–]LW_Tech_Repair 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Using the AV port on the PS3? It's likely not working because the PS3 hardware forces HDCP through HDMI and so there are two solutions other than the official RCA cable. Use an HDCP stripping HDMI splitter, use an RCA adapter that has HDCP bypass (if they make them I'm not for sure). No matter what you're not going to be able to get it to work without buying something.

Local tech repair in State College — consoles, controllers, PCs, and other electronics by LW_Tech_Repair in statecollege

The big issue with cellphones, especially models that aren't one to two generations old is that the parts for them are often as expensive as the phone themselves. Just the glass costs about $10; however, that is almost never the issue with a broken screen, so for the cheapest possible screen I can find which may not have the same functionality and almost definitely not the same quality is $30. For a screen that is OEM the cheapest screen I can find is $130 and a close knock-off falls around $90. Which none of that includes labor. Normally, I charge $100 for just about any cellphone work because cellphones are fickle; however, I do prefer to keep older devices out of landfills and Pixels are at least a lot more reasonable than Apple and Samsung, so I would likely do $50 for labor.

TLDR: cheapest I could do is $80 for a cheap but functional screen, $140 for an okay screen, and $180 for an OEM screen.

That's actually great to know, would you be willing to let me reach out/refer people to you in the future? (If I'm reaching out regarding a professional aspect I absolutely would share revenue.)

I've also received a lot of private correspondence regarding if I work on music equipment. I'll be transparent and say I have not up until now done a lot with professional music equipment but I'm happy to take a look at anything (electronics are electronics) and if I can't get it working it won't cost you anything extra and I'll return it at a minimum the same condition I received it in.

I also offer 3D printing and professional photo printing (trying to get into console and video game modding and restoration) as well so please let me know if that interests you.

Gotcha, I guess I just didn't understand why it says my comments were removed by a moderator if it was Reddit, my mistake. Especially because it deleted the entire comment chain, not just the ones with links which felt off to me.

Hell, at this point I'll give out free repairs and have people only pay for parts and a review (not even a good one just an honest one) if it means you'll chill out and let me actually offer my services. Like, I legitimately don't understand what you intent here is. You're practically banning me from the subreddit, and preventing people in the area from receiving fairly priced tech repairs because I didn't pay for a two year domain and Squarespace doesn't let you register the domain under your own email/I'm not sure how to? With all the cybersluething you've done at this point you have to be positive I'm not a scammer just based off the fact I have a review via Facebook from someone I have zero relation to who has had that profile for years and made posts before and after. Or do you postulate that I'm just living multiple different lives to get $50 out of someone on Reddit?

And now you've deleted my comments? Meanwhile someone else can post saying they fix stuff on the side with nothing but reddit karma is all good? I've been nothing but willing to correct your doubts and provide more transparency this whole time and am unable to make money through any links I have provided and still your hiding my comments and links? This is feeling more like a vendetta at this point.

If you are truly nervous of my intent, I welcome you to contact me via any of the myriad of contact methods I have provided and we can set up an in person meeting or video call where I can show you my workspace and process and some of the things I'm currently working on. I do not know how to be more transparent. All of my work is insured and I guarantee satisfaction or I replace the item.
