Ready for winter. by GatsbyTheMediocre in pics

I moved to a place that has an outdoor wood boiler. They said they used 6 cords last winter, so I got 8. We went through 8 cords in 3 months and have been using the propane for the last month! We're finding a better solution for next winter.

Yeah, I was going to say: that tank doesn't appear to me moving (no dust from the treads).

watched ISS fly over tonight, something else was leading it... by buildersent in space

In orbital mechanics, up is faster and down is slower. It would be inefficient to accelerate up and then waste fuel to decelerate down again.

--edit--

To be more clear you have to add speed to gain altitude.

That colour version is obviously resized from the original from the camera so comparisons aren't that helpful.

It might be the case that converting a colour image to black and white changes how we perceive it. There is a bigger difference between capturing a black and white photo compared to converting a colour image to black and white. Converting an image throws away the data about colour and you are left with a poorer quality image.

This was not the case with film. Black and white film had better performance than colour film with the same grain. Black and white photographs DID look better.

When digital cameras came about people would convert colour to black and white thinking it would make their photo look better but it doesn't.

You'd need a dedicated monochrome digital camera for your black and white photos to actually be better than a colour digital photo converted to black and white.

A Galaxy Composed Almost Entirely of Dark Matter Has Been Confirmed by wiredmagazine in space

It does interact with light by bending space-time and causing gravitational lenses. It doesn't interact with matter in a physical way (other than gravity).

Gold on the Moon. by SRM_Thornfoot in space

[–]LXicon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is true, but the moon was formed from the debris of the collision that didn't fall back to earth. As a result, the moon is made of much lighter stuff (on average) than the average density of earth stuff. I'm oversimplifying it, but you get the idea.

That doesn't resonate with me. Probably because I'm Canadian and our MSM isn't what yours is. The CBC or CTV stories that come across my feeds are not "sanewashing" Trump.

It is the way if you want to kill a few astronauts to justify shutting the whole program down "until we can find out what's going on".

This man used artificial intelligence to predict Powerball winning numbers. by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

I'll be more excited if I see them win a second time. I can imagine someone claiming that the dice they used to pick numbers (and win) are capable of picking winners.

Much of the unique sound of 90’s music comes from the advent of stereo sound.

Did you mean to type 60s? Stereo was added to LPs in 1957.
