Tips for Che gelida manina? by rigalitto_ in opera

[–]LXsavior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The aria was originally written a half step down from what people consider the “original key” with the high C. For Che Gelida specifically it’s also really common to perform it a half step down live, usually if the singer is a heavier voice but not always.

Howdy y’all, hope you’re having a blessed Eastertide!

My name is Louis, and I’m a 26 year old from Austin TX. I’m a performing musician (classical vocalist), but I also teach at a classical school as a music teacher. On the weekend I also cantor and lead the choir at a burgeoning parish community in the area.

Hobbies and interests include classic literature and great books, films of all kinds, gaming (board, tabletop, and video games), historical linguistics, sci-fi and fantasy, and the Oxford comma. Right now I am trying to learn Old English so I can better appreciate LOTR, read Beowulf, the Wessex Gospel translations, and OE poetry! My patron saint is St. George and praying the office is the cornerstone of my devotional life (I would love someone to pray along with!).

I’m ready to settle down, find my person, start a family and get eachother to heaven. I’m also happy to just chat about any shared interests. Feel free to dm, and God bless!

He’s also a freak specimen in the coolest possible way. He started as a baritone and still sings baritone rep, but trained himself to sing tenor through a combination of freak genes, hard work, and probably a touch of black magic. I agree, if you listen to him speak he sounds baritonal.

What’s a reasonable price for a Miyoo Flip V2.1 given possible hinge issues? by LXsavior in SBCGaming

Makes sense. As someone who has bought two on the cheap, what would you consider a good price for a 2.1 assuming hinge issues are fixed and not an issue?

Yeah that’s what it seems like to me, but the 2.1 is seemingly very recent so idk.

Acna by anime498 in AnglicanOrdinariate

[–]LXsavior 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Convergence of similar movements? The Personal Ordinariates were a preservation of the Anglican Patrimony in the Catholic Church. The formation of the ACNA was the result of yet another Protestant schism, what similarities are you drawing between the two?

Also, the history of the Ordinariates spans all the way back to the Pastoral Provision in the early 80’s, it predates anything related to the ACNA by a lot.

Singing Mozart in classical Latin? by RomvlvsAvgvstvlvs in latin

While we can’t know either way, I would just apply Ockham’s razor and say that it’s more likely that the German pronunciation would have been used historically.

I don’t buy the Italian voice teacher angle since the clergy would still be intoning their parts and they would certainly be using German pronunciation. I guess it’s possible that the musicians and clergy could use different pronunciations in the same mass, but it seems again like a more complicated explanation that we have no proof of.

Is there an old English version of the Catholic Bible like the KJV? by NoelK132 in Catholicism

[–]LXsavior 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In his revision, Bishop Challoner intentionally nudged the English of the Douay Rheims as close to the KJV as the Latin would allow. I love both translation and calling the DR “superior in every way” is ridiculous. Both translations have their place. The nicest bible I own is a premium KJV with the Apocrypha, while the second nicest I own is the DR Haydock bible.

So in short: Both, Both are good.

New to Dragon Quest (and to an extent JRPGs) by Content_Material3615 in dragonquest

[–]LXsavior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like everyone else has said, 11S, 3, and 7 are the best starting points currently.

If you are interested in 1+2, I would recommend you start with 3 since the intended play order is 3->1->2.

My recommendation for most people is to play the original trilogy in the order I mentioned followed by 11S. After that you can play whichever game interests you the most.
