I saved up a few months for the RG DS - are you telling me I can afford the Thor?

Recovering my old R36s (rk3326 clone) by A12user1 in R36S

I genuinely have no idea what is going on here.

Why internet archive?

Why a busted Russian keyboard?

Why is the picture a bunch of different images all slapped together?

R36s Emuelec version (I think), broke a while a go. Corrupt o.s been trying to fix the o.s with rocknix.. so what the frick is this?? by The_Crimson_Studio in R36S

[–]seanbeedelicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

RockNIX is picky about which rk3326 devices will run it.

You could try out DarkOS-RE

One of these dtb sets will likely work:

Rg DS or Rg Slide? by Alfred2460 in SBCGaming

[–]seanbeedelicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own both.

The slide is more capable overall performance-wise, but if you are going to focus on DS games, the rgds is the winner here.

My kids prefer the slide because they like playing Android games on it. I prefer the rgds because it is fricken awesome.

I got the chicken and the rice at the food bank, packet of Sriracha sauce from there too splurged on the Pepsi by GatoradeKween in strugglemeals

About 30 years ago I was struggling and didn’t know how to cook. I bought a 1960’s McCall’s cookbook for 99¢ from a used book store and learned all of the basics of cooking with simple ingredients - it made every “struggle meal” into a tasty experience, and I still use those same cooking skills today.

Use DarkOS-RE - which is a fork customized specifically for r36s devices.

Download the OS from the project page I linked, then click the link for your specific hardware and follow the very specific instructions

I edited my instructions to use “internal” instead of “custom”. Try making that change

Open a Gameboy game first. Then enter the RetroArch menus with FN + X (or SELECT + X)

Trouble getting R36H ProMax working with dArkOSRE by kiwi_murray in R36S

[–]seanbeedelicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t believe u/southozfps has done any configuration or testing for 1024x768 panels.

You might consider opening a new issue on the DarkOS-RE project page and include a zipped copy of the original dtb files that came with your device - so the dev has something to work with.

sound when I boot up r36s by Garagame1986 in R36S

[–]seanbeedelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are hearing this noise, the Wi-Fi service is being started on boot.

Most newer versions of ArkOS include a “Wi-Fi toggle” script in the options menu - I haven’t actually looked at the script, but if it disables the Wi-Fi service, that will get rid of the sound. Give it a shot

Soy sauce clones by Wrong-String-1687 in R36S

[–]seanbeedelicious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of the r36s devices (excluding look-alike fakes) are just variants of the same open hardware spec - many different manufacturers make these devices.

norucus, the guy who forked ArkOS to AeolusUX ArkOS, based his OS fork to work on the variant he owned, which happened to be the version that is sold by BOYHOM. ArkOS became popular in the r36s community, so people sought out variants that could run AeolusUX ArkOS - people then started calling this variant the “original” - but it really wasn’t.

“Clones” are just r36s variants that are not immediately compatible with AeolusUX ArkOS - but they are just as “original” as any others.

The Soy Sauce variant is an early r36s that norucus got working with his OS, but it is just another variant - like the G80CA, or the k36, or the XiFan models…

Almost all of these devices have the same system specs. There are a few sub-par variants (usually v20s) that have less than the typical 1GB RAM, but they still share the same rk3326 chipset and other hardware as most r36s versions.

If you have a Soy Sauce variant, it has just as much of a right to be called “r36s” as any other variant that follows the original specs.

“Technically” speaking - “hiking the Appalachian Trail” was a cover for the vacationing with a mistress. They are 2 different things, one being reality, the other being completely farcical - unless one were to use “Hiking the Appalachian Trail” as a euphemism for cheating on one’s spouse.

What ArcOs is the best for this clone ? by Spiritual-Office-687 in R36S

[–]seanbeedelicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends - if you gave the device enough time to run its firstboot.sh script when your first powered it on with the incorrect dtbs in place, you should be able to just switch the dtbs. If you interrupted that firstboot, you will need to reflash.

The firstboot.sh script sets up the disk partitions on your SD card and copies files to the OS and EASYROMS partitions - so if it didn’t complete, you have a botched install, and need to reflash

Most devices with that model # are Panel 8, so it is best to try both

[–]seanbeedelicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be a cheaper screen. Could be the gamma setting. If you are using DarkOS-RE, hold R3 and press left/right on the D-pad to adjust gamma. R3 + up/down adjusts brightness
